Possible coolant leak into Cylinder no. 4, head replacement?
I have a problem with a 57 plate Clio 1.4 (I think) petrol. It's broken down twice in the last 9 months, with the fault on both occasions being shown as 'coil pack no. 4'. First time the garage replaced the coil pack and it had been fine for 9 months, however it started misfiring again the other day, the same fault came up again. We took it to a local garag who we trust and they suspect it is water ingress getting in passed the spark plug (apparently the spark plugs sit quite low in the casing and water can pool up and leak in over time?). They took the plug out, dried it out and put some sealant in there and it was fine for a few miles but it's started misfiring again now. The garage had warned that it may be a coolant leak from a crack in the cylinder head and I suspect this may be the case. Does this sound probable? Roughly how much should I put aside for this repair? They've quoted around £1000. The car had only done 22,000 miles and have full service history so I would have thought this fault wouldn't have appeared for a long time yet!
Any help much appreciated.
