Renault Laguna 1.8 RN - 1998 - timing belt help

Hi all.

Can anyone help me out here. I've got a friend who's got a Laguna 1.8 RN - probably the 8v one. The timing belt snapped and she has asked me to fix it for her.

Simple question....am I wasting my time?? Is it possible the engine is now shot??

If not can some one please tell me what I need to change the belt ?? Any specific tools etc???

Any info advice is greatly appreciated. Never worked on a Laguna before.

Been web hunting for any tech pdfs etc but the car is 18years old so not much online.

Cheers

Steve

Re: Engine Cover

Quote:

Hi there guys I have a question I hope someone can help me on. I have up to now owned a Clio, Megane and am now on 3rd Scenic, all but the current one have been diesel,s this one is a 1.6 VVT 57 reg. On all the diesels there has been a black engine cover marked DCi but on this one there isnt one, you can see the coils and leads. I believe there should be one and I have seen a couple on ebay which say "1.6 16 v" on them but dont know if this is correct or would it have 1.6VVT on it they are also silver . Does anyone know where I can see a picture or could I ask if anyone has a 1.6 VVt to post a pic?
Thanks in advance
A while back I bought a 2008 1.6 Dynamique Scenic and that didn't have the engine cover which I queried and was told that at the time they were no longer fitted, I think this was due to the ignition coils getting too hot but that's just my theory
My present Scenic which is diesel does have the cover fitted but that just confirms my idea of the coils as a diesel is more efficient the hotter it is.
Just check your Scenic to see if the mounting points are still fitted to the engine, they have rubber bush inserts in them.
The covers should be all the same size in either 1.6vvt or 1.6 16 valve.
Hope that helps.

steering wheel noise in the engine

hi all, we have a 05 renault laguna 1.9 estate and sometimes when turning the steering wheel it makes a funny noise that can be heard in the car when the engine is running and inside and outside when the engine is off if we turn the steering wheel...how to describe the sound...its like a flicking sound, almost like when you put the wipers on and the glass is dry but faster, i said it sounds like something turning in a dry joint but only because its a sound i've heard before whilst trying to get a rubber end onto a bicycle handlebar...i'm not sure i want someone else to have this problem because the noise is so annoying but i'm hoping someone has an idea of what it is and how we fix it...ty

Thumbs upTwingo with attitude!

I have a 1998 left hand drive Twingo with attitude. It starts fine. You drive somewhere and when you come to start off again it turns over but refuses to start. You wait 20 minutes, try again and it coughs into life Grrrrr. I took it to the garage and they had no idea- suggested scrapping it. It doesn't happen all the time- it seems to go through bad patches. Also i don't know if this is connected but the digital speedo show 0kph and there is sometimes an orange steering wheel light on the dash board. Once you get it going it runs fine - drove from France to Denmark but somedays if just wants to sit. Any ideas?

Tolerance:

Jiggs McDonald, NHL Hall of Fame broadcaster speaking in Ontario, says:

"I am truly perplexed that so many of my friends are against another mosque being built in Toronto. I think it should be the goal of every Canadian to be tolerant regardless of their religious beliefs. Thus the mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance."

“That is why I also propose that two nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque; thereby promoting tolerance from within the mosque. We could call one of the clubs, which would be gay, "The Turban Cowboy," and the other, a topless bar, would be called "You Mecca Me Hot."

“Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork, and adjacent to that an open-pit barbecue pork restaurant, called "Iraq of Ribs."

“Across the street there could be a lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret," with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.”, and on the other side a liquor store called "Morehammered."

Scenic II 2.0 Overheat protection ?

Hi All !

My 2004 Scenic II 2.0 had a problem where the radiator cover rubbed through the radiator and caused a leak.
My Dad drove the car until it gave the Stop error and Cut out.

My question is : Does the car have a Overheat protection that cuts the car out to prevent damage ?

In the mean time I got a new radiator and the car is running. I am just worried about long term damage.

Thanks.

Hi all
My Clio 3 dCi battery does start the car but takes few seconds. ( not straight away). We got another car which has a good fully charged battery on it. Question is even the clio's battery is not flat can I jump start the clio from the car which got good battery in order to see if clio starts straight away ( without any few seconds cranking)

Cheers

Sorry Corky, they made me do it,

This ones for Heather.......

This guy went to the doctor and said to him "Doctor….I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but every time I f@rt, it sounds like the word "HONDA”.

“That’s interesting, never heard of anything like that before. Do you think you could f@rt for me?” says the doctor. The guy says “Sure.” And sure enough, the doctor hears “HONDA”.

After several attempts to figure out what’s wrong with this guy, the doctor runs out of ideas. He sends him to all sorts of stomach specialists and none of them can figure out why this guys f@rts say “HONDA.” It is a completely out of this world medical condition.

Finally, as a last resort, the doctors think they should send the man to a dentist.

After explaining the problem to the dentist, the dentist opened up the guys mouth and examining it.

The dentist says “A-haa!!!!….I have solved the problem.”

The patient says “What is it? What is it. Please tell me doc”…..The dentist replies “Well, sir, you have an abscess tooth.”

The guy says “Yeah….so….What has that got to do with my f@rts?”

The dentist replies, “Cant you see??….. Abscess Makes The F@rt Go HONDA”

Hello guys,

I am having troubles with my Laguna few years and can't seem to find the right solution.

My Laguna is not diesel so it's not the heaters that is causing the problem.

I have uploaded a video so you can see whats happening

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE-N...ature=youtu.be

I am not pressing the gas pedal or clutch. This problem is more often in summer when its hot and rarely in winter.

Any solutions ?

Thank you

to know for sure needs to be scanned with a proper level diagnostics tool ie renault clip or delphi etc. if i was having a guess then i would be looking at throttle body related air leaks or throttle body its self faulty. without a proper scan its all guess work and you know what guess work ends up being, loads of new parts that the car may not need,

Few questions about my Grand Scenic 1.6

Hello all,

I have 2007 Grand Scenic 1.6 for about month now. This is our 3rd Renault. I've noticed that the engine is making ''diesel'' noise. Can this be dephaser pulley? When the engine is cold or starting (cold or hot) there is nothing unusual. When engine reaches temperature and idling I can hear that ''diesel'' noise. Maybe it is me, but I can say that inside the car in drivers position you can say that you have a diesel car.
Over the weekend we had a drive in area with hills. I've noticed that the car is low on power when driving uphill. Inside there was 4 adults and 2 kids. We had 1.6 car before, and I know how it feels when you ''missing'' power. Today decided to check the engine. The car has 148K km and the timing was done about 10K ago. First I've noticed that the spark plugs were not tight. I believe if I had better grip/access I could remove them with bare hands . Could this be the power loss cause? Air filter is ok. I found one loose tube/pipe near the battery. Can't find where to attach. Also cleaned one sensor from the front of the engine. Looks like few bits missing from that sensor.
How can I test or test that dephaser pulley is OK or it is time for a new one?

Thank you all for reply.

Espace lose Plug?

Morning,
Had to put a new bulb in the front drivers side and found this plug hanging about. I contacted the garage and sent a photo, they said its not for your model. But I have a 1998 Espace RXE 2.2DT with 109,000 on the clock, but the terminals are like new in the plug. Other unused plugs and sockets are corroded as you would expect. We've been with the garage for years with no problems, but late last year it went for an mot & service. When we got home the wipers were not working, I had a look and the plug was out, why I don't know. We have trouble starting it now, before it started first time in all weathers. Spoke to the garage and they told my wife to press the accelerator down halfway, it starts after a couple of turns then jumps when it fires. They have a new mechanic and I a bit suspect about this lose plug, surely I terminals would be corroded. Any ideas , please.
Jim

Re: Laguna 2 extreme dci 1.9

Might be lucky an find somebody who can clone your card locally ..tips when you get round to it are ASAP change cam belt etc check all drainage points especially scuttle drains as Renaults are prone to problems with water ingression on the electrics ..as for the bushes do a search as I think there was a upgraded longer lasting one

Junior doctors new contracts

The Royal College of Nursing has weighed in on Prime Minister David Cameron's health care proposals for the junior doctors in the National Health Service.

The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had a sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all labouring under a misconception.

Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted.

Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, Grow up."

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

The Surgeons were fed up with the cuts and decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

The Ear Nose and Throat specialists didn't swallow it, and just wouldn't hear of it.

The Pharmacists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the
Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter...."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were ****ed off at the whole idea.

The Anaesthetists thought the whole idea was a gas, but the
Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the arseholes in Whitehall.
