Car failed MOT due to a "rough" rear wheel bearing so plan to replace this weekend.
I have never done one previously but having checked youtube, it looks simple enough as i have a 30mm socket and 210nm wrench to do the hub nut back up to 175nm but i see people having a few issues, namely :
1 - getting the old one out can be tricky unless you have either the tool that tightens and pushes it out, or i see some people welding spots onto the inside of the old bearing and then chiselling it out
2 - fitting the new bearing, i see people putting the bearing in the freezer to shrink it a little, and then the hub into the oven to expand it
Presuming there are some of your guys/gals who have replaced a rear wheel bearing before, can you confirm if the above 2 options are acceptable please and wont compromise or harm the vehicle or new bearing ?
If "yes" to number 2, what temp in the oven and for how long do i cook it ?
Or do i take it up the local garage and ask him to do it for a tenner once i've got the hub off with the bearing stuck in it ?
Thanks in advance.
