This is my first thread, so I apologise for any inconsistencies.
I have a problem with my Renault Clio 1.4 (8 Valve?) It's a Mk2 Ph1 model built in 2001. The engine is turning over, but it's not firing!
It ran fine when I first bought the car, however the battery went flat after being left stationary over this winter. After removing the battery from the car, and charging it, it stopped firing up.
Firstly, I thought it was the immobiliser, so i looked online at some ways to bypass it. After a few attempts with both keys the light flashes once per second before ignition, and once the ignition is primed the light switches off completely after 5-10 seconds.
I have two keys and have tried both of them multiple times, I don't really want this to be expensive, so I'm trying to avoid spending money on new parts, and time in the garage. I am however contemplating a new key, coil pack, TDC loom and/or battery, if it's essential. If you think one of these is the main cause of the problem, please let me know.
Saying that, I have replaced the crankshaft sensor after having the RAC visit me at home, who identified this to be the main problem. I also had a friend run a diagnostics on the electrical system, as the RAC guy suggested it may be an alternative problem.
However this returned the same diagnosis, and I'm not aware if he tried to reset the fault. FYI; this was before the crankshaft sensor was replaced, and neither the original or aftermarket sensor will work.
The RAC guy tested the spark plugs with some sort of thing (voltmeter?) and it didn't pick anything up, I think?
I have got it to fire up once, by attempting to start it several times, whilst recharging the battery when necessary. Once it started, I gave it a good 30 minute drive to gather some charge and hopefully sort the problem, but it hasn't started since.
Finally, before I got it to start, the engine coolant/temperature light flickered a bit on the dashboard, and it began to click a bit under the hood. It sounded like something was restarting (possibly fuel injector or a relay)? This hasn't happened again, and it wont start, which makes me worry a little.
I have yet to check the fuses to see if any have blown, and will update this thread as soon with my findings as soon as possible!
In the meantime, I would appreciate any help/advice/guidance on the problem! Please let me know if you need more information, pictures etc.
Many thanks,
Levi
