Just got my first Renault (Scenic) and wanted to check a couple of things.
So I just bought my first ever Renault, a 2006 Grand Scenic II 1.9dCI 6 speed, and thought I should sign up here and see what's up! There's a couple of things I wanted to check if possible as I have no frame of reference.
First of all, I love the car. it's in really good nick, 89k miles on the clock and the extra seats and luggage space are a god-send. I've not made any changes to the car other than replacing a couple of interior bulbs (and a tail light), topping up the oil, and I've fitted parking sensors.
The main concern I have is it seems very slow to accelerate. It feels like it's struggling to find any power pulling away and then going up through the gears. It pulls a bit better when the revs get up but until then, it's quite slow on the uptake. My last car was a Ford Focus 1.6 TDci which accelerated a lot better than this one, but I don't know if I'm just used to the old car as I had it for so long. I'm not getting any warnings on the dash, other than an extremely intermittent " check parking brake" message that briefly appears once in a blue moon when driving.
Is there anything I can check on the Scenic, or is this normal behaviour? If it's normal, then I'll forget about it and enjoy the space and comfort but I'm hoping I can clear this up before the warranty runs out in about six weeks.
More details: We've been to Cornwall and back in it already (we live in East of England), and it had no real issues with the hills even fully loaded although the steeper ones did mean I had to change down one or two gears to get to the top.
Also there was no mention of a cambelt change in the service history, so we had that and the water pump done at the dealership (did it for about half price as part of the purchase deal).
Is there any way I can check if the turbo is working properly, or should I be looking somewhere else? Again, if the comparatively lower performance is to be expected then I'm happy to forget about it and get used to the new car. It just struck me as odd that the bigger engine would seem so much slower.
Thanks in advance! (and sorry for the long post)
