Clio 1.5 dci Dynamique poor fuel economy?

I had a 1.5 dci Dynamique that I bought when it was 4 years old. It had only done 10k miles at the time, and over the four years I had it, I covered 100k miles, regularly returning 65mpg. Over 70mpg wasn't unusual.

I've just bought another one, again four years old, again very low mileage. On the way home, the injection warning light came on. I took it back, and the dealer identified a split fuel pipe and fixed it (perhaps). I've now done a thousand miles in the new car, and I'm only getting 42mpg. Not surprisingly, I'm really disappointed.

What could cause such a difference?
