USB charging problem

I would say the USB adaptor is not connecting properly. I think I have had a situation before where the centre button on the adaptor won't reach.

Also if it's an actual cig lighter and has been used as such the contacts of the socket will be heavily oxidised and generally crudded up so making poor contact.

EDIT: changing the socket for a new one would probably help enormously given its age.
