Just getting started

Just getting started
I am here to learn and get as much guidance as possible on the purchase of my first tractor. I have always been a Deere guy but with my recent research I may be crossing over the Kubota side.
Newbie from Australia
Hi,
my name is Ross and I live in country Victoria, Australia, I found this forum whilst looking for ideas on how to convert a ride-on mower into a small / mini forklift to use to move heavier items than I can't lift, around our small 2.25 acre property. Management, aka, my lovely wife, has got me making timber planters out of recycled pallets to put across the back verandah of our house and I just know that by the time they are full I will not be able to move them, (not as young as I once was) hence this project.
I have found one or two ideas already, so thought it might be a good idea to sign up and pick the brains of those who have already gone before me with a similar project, I look forward to meeting with other like minded individuals in the coming days and weeks,

Kind regards, Ross
160 transmission belt-Are you Kidding Me
Has anyone else experience the incredible mechanical mess of trying to replace the transmission drive belt (the top belt) on a old 160? I could not believe my eyes when I look to see how to replace the belt. The belt/pulley guards/guides to remove the springs and the Xbrace pulley support. I'm in rehab from this experience, and the group leader says I'm making good progress, (this part is supposed to be humor). But, seriously, what mechanical nightmare. bjr23

Long Island NY Walk Behind Snow Blade Wanted
Forgive me if I dropped this in the wrong place.

Trying to find a usable snow / dirt blade for my C8 Walk behind that I do not have to do a long road trip to pick up.

I see a nice one on Ebay, but its at least 6 hours round trip:tango_face_sad:
Sears or David Bradley
My name is Dan. I picked up a 61 speedex then a 69 then 65 and restored them all but sadly sold them all. I rescued yet another tractor from the scrap yard. This one a little different. I really enjoy tinkering with the oldies. My dad and grand father always had old tractors and I suppose that’s where I get it from. So I have a few questions about this old boy. Thanks for having me Onufreck.

Need help identifying this Adjuster
I picked up this early Gravely flail mower at the Mow-In. The height adjuster mechanism is not Gravely. Anybody recognize what it came off of?

Cub Cadet running on one cilinder
I have a Cub Cadet 3185, with Biggs 18hp Vanguard 350447.
Started to have some issues recently: running a little rough, vacuum not strong enough to activate mower.
After some debugging, I determined it is running on only one of cylinders ( out of two). Did the typical debugging: spark ok, valves seemed ok. While doing that ... noticed the piston is not really moving while cranking. I can see it through the spark hole sitting there, resting close to top. It is not suck, I can push it easily and it slides smoothly.

So it seems to be detached from the crankshaft somehow, either broken connecting rod or it detached at the shaft or the cylinder head. Seems like quite a big failure and I am wondering how is the remaining cylinder still working, pieces not jammed inside to lead to a permanent catastrophic failure ...

Anyway ... long story short : my question is: is it worth taking the engine apart to try to reattach the cylinder or just run it on one cylinder until it finally succumbs ?
( it starts up fine, I can probably hack the mower belt tensioner to engage somehow without the vacuum )
Full engine replacement or similar is not a cost efficient option, I can probably get another fixer upper mower to have fun with for a much lower cost.

Thanks in advance ...
Eugen
