2007 JD X540 Liquid Cooled Engine: Spare parts OBSOLESCENCE
I have been researching and have decided on a 500 Series tractor. My biggest interest is in the X540 vs the 500/530, but have a critical question regarding availability of spare parts and repair costs. Since I am looking at older model tractors, I am already at ~8-10+ yr mark at time of purchase.

Others have shared to be concerned as to availability of parts and repair costs as the liquid cooled engines get older. I do not want to spend a lot of money on a tractor which may experience some form of obsolescence within a few years of my purchase. Spending several thousand dollars is a lot of money for me and can't be wasted on a tractor good FOR LESS THAN 10 years.

PLEASE COMMENT ON THIS THREAD AS I MAY HAVE TO MAKE AN OFFER TODAY ON AN X540 TRACTOR (2007, 450 HRS) BUT DON'T WANT TO GET BURNED IN THE FUTURE. THANKS.

Finally in the Ford Family
So for a journey that sort of started back in Nov of 2015 and every year after that with a new listing of a LGT 14D, I finally found this beauty a few days ago and went down to fetch her today. 528 hours and she sounds great. A few minor cosmetic issues, but overall, super solid. My dad is in the one pic, a friend wanted a pic with my 445 and 16D together for size (he's considering a semi-local 14D that just came available). I'm post more pics soon.

John Deere 445 Seat Spring Help
Hello everyone,

Recently acquired a 445 and I am need of help identifying what this spring is called for my seat suspension? It is the middle circle towards the back, to the left of the safety switch

I have tried researching, but I have come to no avail. Is there also a bolt to bolt it down? I need some part numbers so I can go to the dealer this week and get one.

Thanks!!!

Loader Bolts 3032e Moving/Backing out
Been doing extensive loader work and my bolts holding the different loader pieces in place while it articulates are moving, loosening, or backing out. These are the bolts or bushings if you will that have the zirc grease fitting on one side and a nut on the other.

A call to the salesman ended with a double-downed on that they would not come out and they loosen up over time???

I've also put a wrench on them but it seems they will need a lot of force and I didn't want to damage anything without knowing if i can just muscle them back down.

Trying to attach a few pics and if anyone has some knowledge on them or give me some instruction it would be greatly appreciated.

Question to 445 owners (or similar tractors)
When I pulled the 60 inch deck on my newly acquired 445, I pulled the blades and sharpened them. I really like sharp blades and jacking up smaller mowers to pull the blades has been a fast and easy chore. But my question to all of you is this: How can i pull the blades on a 445 w/60 inch deck without pulling the deck? Jacking it up, either front or rear doesn't seem to get me the clearance I need. Every time I sharpen blades, I also lube the spindles. So, this is an important process for me.
Brakes downhill issue
Hi guys, I recently bought an LX277 so she's pretty old but still runs well and seems to have been well maintained. But the only problem I have with it is that when I go down a steep hill the brakes just don't work and I pickup speed, which is mildly terrifying.... the brakes work fine going down less steep inclines. To get around the problem I have been mowing those steeper parts in reverse where the transmission has more control but the going is pretty slow when you're waiting for gravity to roll you down backwards.
So my question is, as the LX277 has a transmission brake rather than a caliper on the axle. Are they just not cut out for braking downhill, or should I be looking to getting the pads replaced?

Cheers,

Sketchy.
