Spin On Oil Filter Converstion

Spin On Oil Filter Converstion
Last week I realized I was dawdling over doing the oil change on my Gabi because I'd had a hard time sealing the oil canister last time. So off to the parts store via www and bought the conversion kit, NAPA for the filter for it and my JD D110 mower, and Rotella. Parts all came, duly installed and oil change made. Had to buy 1 5/8" socket to install kit and 1 1/2" socket to remove old adapter from the 2000. Afterwards I was recording the maintenance and cost on my maintenance record and looked back to last oil change. I realized then another reason I wanted to change from the canister......Spin on filter cost half what the canister filter element cost! I love happy endings.

I am new to this fine group!
I have 1968 Sears Super 12 Garden Tractor, which was wired wrong (it wouldn't charge). I think I have it ready, after rewiring it.
G244 Issue
I have an interesting issue/problem with my Bolens G244. I have both a rear mount snow blower and a rear mount "bush hog". In the winter with the snow blower, although this tractor is a bit under powered for doing both of these jobs, I have no issues with the tractor. It will blow snow for hours without any problems (we have a 360 meter lane). However in the summer or early fall when using the bush hog after about 15-20 minutes the tractor will begin to starve for fuel and will actually stop on its own. To me this behavior is just like someone has shut the fuel supply off. I have replaced the filter and as this dosen't happen in cold weather I do not believe that the filter is an issue. I have considered vapor lock in the fuel line but I am sure that the fuel tank is getting sufficient air through the filler cap.
I run both the snow blower and the bush hog at 1000 rpm but I can not imagine that the PTO RPM should or would be an issue.
All ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Wayne

Moisture problems
I have a utility 300 T/A, not to long ago I changed the trans fluid because it was creamy due to moisture. I had changed it around 5 months ago, and just checked it and its milky again. I am new to the tractor world, so I don't know what's happening, or what is causing the water to get in there. Could the warming and cooling down, cause enough moisture to for the fluid to be milky. I would appreciate any help I could get on this problem. Thank you.
Wondering what a 345 was worth these days.
Hey Guys. Going to an estate auction today and there is a well used 345 (don`t know the hours) on it I was looking at. Overall it appears to be in pretty good shape. I have a couple 300`s and a couple 317`s that are my babies but have never looked at any of the newer stuff. Just wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark on value of the 345. Thanks in advance!
John Deere 430 GT Dayton Ohio well used

new guy from michigan
Hi guys and gals,

Name is Jason. I'm joining in order to find some info on a used Cub Cadet 1730 that I just acquired from my neighbor. I enjoy golf, classic cars, and time with my family. Good to meet everyone.
Thinking about a 2018 Toro MX5075 ...$2800
Hey all!

I now have an acre+ of lawn to cut at my place and the riding mower that came with the place isn't gettin' it!

I'm wanting a zero turn!

I found one for sale not too far from me. It's a 2018 Toro 50" MX5075. It is supposed to have 40 hours on it as the guy just bought it this past June. He's asking $2800. They are $4000 new.

He started working for a landscaping company and can just use that equipment to do his own lawn now, freeing up the need for the MX5075.

I plan on using it for my home only so no need for something totally commercial. He says he has all the paperwork and I would expect the warranty will be transferable.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Hello from Canada
I'm a retired farmer who has had, over the years, several JD tractors both large and small. I'm "green" through and through.
However now that I'm retired I am stuck with a small Bolens G244.
Looking forward to talking to other Bolens G244 owners.
Removing the magneto on an L model
How much of a problem is it to remove the magneto on a L model. I need to service the points & the last time I did it, it was pretty difficult to say the least, doing it with the mag installed.
Newbie
Hi everybody, I live at 9200 feet in the Rockies, snow country. I've got a John Deere 318 with a 4 foot JD blower on the front, also a 6000 series Cub Cadet compact tractor with loader. Both of these machines are used to dig us out in the winter.
direction of flow on lgt 145 inline filter
Dumb question but here it goes.

So what I was trying to get at in the title was, what direction is the flow through the lines that connect the inline filter on the trans.

I pulled mine to swap diff's and I now I'm not 100% and I don't want to install it backwards as it flows better in the direction marked on the filter.

Thanks.
GT 235 PTO wont engage
Hi,

I have a John Deere GT235 and the PTO stopped engaging while I was mowing. It stopped working immediately after I had gone in reverse. I thought that it may have something to do with the reverse safety. I replaced the switch and that did not fix the problem. I noticed that the hour meter is not lit anymore and I only see a green ilight on the circuit board under the hood - the red light is not illuminated.

I have a very basic understanding of the PTO system. Hopefully someone can recommend a fix, thanks.
Glad to meetcha!
Hi all,
I'm joining up in hopes of being a sponge of information. I just bought my first tractor, a 1986 Ford 1710 with a loader. It will be used on our also newly acquired 40 acres in Tahoe National Forest. I've only ever done bush hogging on my grandfather's JD model B and summer work with a finish mower on a Ford 1500. So be prepared for some face palm worthy stories and questions to go along with my screen name.

Box Blade for X585 - What Do I Need?!
Good morning all,

I have read up a bunch on here about box blades and 3-point hitches. Still a bit confused what I really need!
Would you all be so kind as to advise on a basic 3-point and box blade? Brands - where to buy! Cost is a factor.

I do not plan any heavy lifting from the 3-point and just basic dirt work from the blade.
Mainly just dirt moving and grading.

I am happy to look at all options that may work!

Thank you very much.

Goofed w/ x394 first trans service

MyTractorForum.com - The Friendliest Tractor Forum and Best Place for Tractor Information
Goofed w/ x394 first trans service
Shouldn't have trusted memory ...

Did the initial x394 transaxle fluid & filter change @ 27 hours instead of 50. Not sure why I had it in my head that it was due at 25 and I was past due. No issues with the actual service, the fill port is in an awkward location & took a flex spout + long funnel to get the fluid in. That filter is pricey! ($39)

The old fluid was a bit muddy & I did see some particulates in the catch basin as I emptied into an old jug - but some of that may have been left in the basin from the 8 hr oil change a while back.
MTD is being bought out ?
I heard MTD is being bought out by Black & Decker or Stanley. Any comments ?
Actuator Advice
I have a 2000 GT (917.273052) that I want to add an actuator to and I need some advice.

The tractor originally had the option for the actuator to be mid-mounted to control both the deck (I do not have) and the sleeve hitch (757.252313). I'd like to use the tractor as it was engineered to be, but I don't know if the hassle of having to fab mounting brackets and source a correct actuator is worth the effort. The original actuator kit (917242450) is, of course, no longer available.

Does any forum member have my model with the actuator or has anyone done this conversion that can shed some light on the install? It may be that I just need to mount an actuator on the hitch and be done with it, but I'd really like to get rid of the one armed bandit and utilize the engineering that was built in.

Thanks for any insights!

TIA
FEL Dipstick
I haven't seen anything about this idea so here goes..... How do you determine your hydraulic level in your FEL reservoir?

With the fill hole on the side of the tank which also serves as the vertical support it is a real pain to work with. Mine came with a street elbow then a vented plug on top. I modified the vent plug to have the vent holes on the side of the flats (rather than the top) to prevent water from getting in then added a filter to the inside of the plug to help keep dirt out and the fluid in. It has worked very well for me over the years. Last Winter I was pushing snow when I realized that the blade I had on wouldn't go up as far as it should have. Upon inspection I determined that I was probably low on fluid. After adding some it was good to go. To fill the reservoir I built a funnel from a reducer and a fitting so I have a larger hole to pour the fluid into. This year I am going to add a small tube to help vent the air out as it fills. This should reduce the bubbles and splashing that happens.

Now for my questions... How full do you fill your tank? How do you know when it is full? I picked up a used car transmission dip stick that I am going to use to check my level but this will require taking out the elbow each time I need to check the level. What has others done? With a 40 year old tractor there is bound to be leaks so I know I loose fluid. I just don't know how much as I am working.

Thanks,
ElSimon
X580 or X720 buying advice
2 different mowers I am looking at buying and need some advice. 1/2 acre yard, 2500sq ft driveway.

2010 X720 470 hours one owner 48" deck no blower in pretty good condition. $5200

2017 X580 36 hours w/ factory warranty until 2021. 54" deck, 47" snowblower, chains and weights. Like new condition. $7200

I need a snowblower so if buying the 720 I would be looking for a used 47" blower which will cost around $2500.

I like the 720 with the hydraulics and the size of it. However I like the 580 since its basically new and already has a snowblower with a warranty.

What would you guys do?

Air Suspension/leveling

MyTractorForum.com - The Friendliest Tractor Forum and Best Place for Tractor Information
Air Suspension/leveling
I’m thinking about adding some sort of ride leveling system to my 2009 Honda Pilot which is currently my tow vehicle for a 6’x10’ utility trailer. I use it primarily for homeowner work. Mulch, gravel, landscaping materials and hauling my John Deere 318.

What do you think? Would you recommend any one system over another?

Thanks.
so much for my American tractor:-(
rebuilt the 54" deck gearbox finally, but hardly American, maybe Global Deere

Newbie says hi.
Hi. I am a 2007 Simplicity Broadmoor owner. I have a fairly large yard and this is the second Broadmoor I have owned. Overall I am pleased with the performance of my machine. I look forward to sharing my experiences and repairs I have had done or do myself. I hope I might find answers to some of my questions as well.

Hi,
I've been a long time lurker on this forum and have found it the best website so far for (in my case) JD lawn tractor related questions. Although I bought my X758 sort of on a whim, I've used member reviews and comments on most all my other attachment purchases and modifications. With the exception of that Frontier rotary cutter I bought, all the comments have been spot on.
JD 4 Bottom Plow Questions
Hi guys, my Dad and I picked this up last year from a neighbor and are in the process of stripping it for the steel and such that we want out of it. I was wondering if anyone can help with ID'ing it? Would anyone also know a value on the plow bottoms and trip mechanisms? I don't like to scrap things that I'm sure someone can use. I mostly know GT's so this is out of my wheel house

Thanks in advance
Mikey.

Good price for a 107?
On my local craigslist there is a Cub 107 for sale. It says it runs ok and it comes with a snowblower and tire chains. The guy is asking $450 for it and it has been posted for about a month. Is this a good deal? (Note: the pictures below are the ones shown on the posting)

PP19A42 wheel alignment
Hello!
Just got a used PP19A42 and it seems that it has a problem with the front wheel alignment.

From the preliminary googling and the user manual, I found out that there are no controls to change the front wheel alignment.
Here is a top view of the wheels (warning: scary!).

Do I need to replace the bits and pieces of the front steering?
Where should I start?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated,
Irek

Ugh...
Got home from work and saw a few loads of fill had been dropped. I'm filling in spots of my yard and I move the fill with my ts348d with primarily the front scoop and sometimes with the dozer blade. I've spread tons and tons of it for months now. It's raining, but I HAD to move the fill.
I hit a soft spot and got stuck bad. Real bad. I tried shoveling and placing boards under the tires to no avail. I ended up having to tow her out with my Ford Expy. I love that truck. Hell, I love that tractor. I don't think I did any damage. I'll have to check in the morning. I was able to work another half hour with no problems though. Hopefully the spindles aren't messed up.
Hi guys
A quick hello. Been reading for a bit, seems like a friendly forum.

Looking for some help picking out a new mower.
ANY information would be helpful!
Hey guy! I just joined and this is my first form. Me and my wife just got our first house, and it’s on some property so we need a tractor. Growing up I spent a lot of time at our ranch an I’m also a heavy equipment operator. That being said I know my way around. But I do need some help! For this property I thought it would be really cool to maintain it with all old tractors so Last week I picked up my grandpas “old tractor “ I knew nothing about it and none of my family could remember any details, and I could not find an ID badge. I started to look at pictures online of tractors. By looking at pictures I thought I had a Farmall that was some where from the late 40s to real early 50s. But some things just looked different. After a little pressure wash love and the wife eyes, she found the ID badge. At one point it was painted over and it was har to read. With a little rubbing I made out 2 words “tractor” and “Harris”. With a LOT more research, I believe that I have a 1948 Massey- Harris pony 11. (If it looks like something els let me know!). It starts rite up an runs great! The only problem is a hydraulic leak that seams to be coming from the pulley Does anyone know where I can get parts? Also, from the pictures I’ve seen it think this originally had 2 sets of rippers in the center an one set in the back? I would just like to know what you guys think and what you see? What is this tractor missing, what’s been added on, just any information I can get.
Thank you!!

JD L120 22hp runs but no power
Hi all, I just received a John Deere L120 with the Briggs 22hp engine. I got it for free and it has just over 500 hours on it. The mower runs but it just doesn't have any power. I changed the plugs on it and it seemed to help a bit but it's still lacking a lot of power. When you engage the blades, it just about dies but will stay running. Haven't had a lot of time to look at it and not really in a hurry but just trying to get some ideas on where to start to get this engine running good again. Thanks

XT3 GSX Deck Steel Gauge
I'm looking at getting the new XT3 GSX and wanting the 54 or 60" mower deck. I have been unable to find any information on the steel gauge on the stamped deck or on the fabricated deck. Can anyone help with the deck steel gauge.

The reason is because my lawn is 5 to 6 acres of mowing and the grass is some tough Bahia grass. Although it may look good it is tough grass. On my old 54" deck the mower blades are totally eat up in 28 hours of mowing, totally worn out with the blade wing scoops even worn off. Now after 8 yrs even the deck is being eaten up which is my reason for wanting to buy the new mower with at least a 10 gauge deck. So hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

I have an early 80's model 550 backhoe. Looks like I am going to need some help. Winters are cold in Alaska and I think it is going to snow soon. I'd like to get this tractor moving again. I'm just a simple homeowner with a couple pieces of equipment. I love to move the dirt around on this 10 acres in the hills. I'm very attached to my TD7 and the 550 hoe. Don't how most folks get along without. Looking forward to getting familiar with this site.
First Deere project Tractor (445)
G'Day all,

So, after moving across the country to a new home in Nova Scotia I figured a tractor for my 2 acres was in order. Did quite a bit of searching and received some excellent advice from Sarge (Sergeant) here on the forums.

A bit of background... two acre property, flat with a few larger obstacles and no hills... snowblowing is handled by an 30" Ariens blower. Whatever tractor I found was basically going to live the life of Rielly… cutting the lawn, hauling a little trailer around.. all light duty work. Sarge recommended a GX345 that I had located but I wasn't able to put a deal together due to shipping costs.

Sooo…. a couple months down the road, I'm at a John Deere Dealer and come across a 445. 1600 hours, and owned by a landscaper who clearly "rode it hard and put it away wet". The dealer received it on trade for a new X5** series. In a fit of what may be a bad decision, I bought it for $700 and drove away. She's in rough shape... temp gauge isn't working, there's a fuel smell when running, various body panels are broken, grease and dirt everywhere... the 48" deck has seen much better days as well... bent, bad welds, missing anti-scalp wheels.... oh god, what have I gotten myself into... :tango_face_wink:

For what its worth, here she is....

Hi, Tim from south central FL. Recently bought an older 8163-B and need to learn A LOT about it.
PO did a" paint over restore" so spec no.s, model no.s, serial no.s are long gone. Starts and runs good, but having to sort out some ingenious modifications. Thanks,
420 gt What is the width of front and rear tires
Does any one know the width of the tires on the front and the rear on the 420 garden tractor?
Wtb lower bagger chute
Looking for just the lower bagger chute that fits a dty4000 with a 54" deck three bin system.
More LT150 issues
Since this is a new issue I figured it made sense to start a new post.

Originally the tractor would run weak and die after running for 10 to20 minutes. Sprayed cleaner in the carb, verified gas cap wasn't the issue, checked air filter. Last step I did was change the coil. After the coil it sounded like the motor had a rattle to it. It started to smoke white smoke. After about 5 minutes the smoke gets thick and the motor dies.
Notice black oil dripping by the exhaust and seem to smell gas on the dipstick.

Took the bowl off the carb and there was black flakes in it. Sprayed more clearner, same problem.

Getting worried!!

Troy Bilt Horse Tiller (MA)
I have a 1970s TB Horse, needs a new home.

It ran great until the engine quit. At that time, I took everything apart to replace seals in the tranny.

I have the original Tecumseh HH60 (I believe it has a broken rod), which has a newer carb. It's an electric start model.

As you can see, I never got it all back together. I also have an unused Greyhound replacement engine, currently installed on the engine mount.

$300 for everything, willing to separate the engine(s) or bumper. Will deliver within an hour of Worcester, Boston or Providence.

Mike

Thinking of SCUT BX23S vs 1025R
I keep hearing that Kubota is better for various reasons like heavier duty axles, all metal, smoother hydraulics, more torque, less money. But comparing the two, the John Deere looks better to me. Looking at the Kubota comparison paper, the John Deere seems to beat the Kubota on their own spec comparison sheet. So, why should I go Kubota over John Deere with these two models?

I'm not trying to stir up anything or being a smart$$. Just trying to get the most for my money and the best product and interesting in others opinions.

2018 John Deere 1025r and Kubota BX23S Comparison:

Kubota BX23S:
Better smoother hydraulic loader control
Better hydraulic loader disconnect
Better hookup for backhoe
Fully made by Kubota, Engine, etc.
Heavier duty axles
1630 vs 1349
2120 vs 1576
Bigger gas tank
All metal
Hood opens sides along with top
Heavier at 2689 vs 2208 (excludes loader frame, so may be closer?)
Hoe Digging Depth 6'5" vs 6'2"
Radiator in back of engine compartment instead of front
Loader universal Quick Attach
Easier storage, smaller length an width

John Deere 1025R:
Slight better engine HP 23.9 (JD Brochure says 24.2) vs 23
PTO 18 vs 17.7
Slight better engine torque 40.7 vs 40
More comfortable in seating area/More room
Feels bigger and more stable
More lighting
Loader bucket level standard
Toolbox
Drive Over Auto Connect Mid Mower Deck
Hoe Stabilizer upright brackets
Better lift capacity with loader 754 vs 739 and 613 w/QA
Better loader breakout capacity
1823 vs 1407 and 1286 w/QA
1320 vs 987 and 901 w/QA
Better hoe swing arc 150 vs 140
Better Hoe Bucket digging force 2036 vs 1936

How to adjust Traction Levers on CRZ48?
Hi I have a BobCat CRZ48 (obviously from header) and found how to adjust the height of the levers but mine need to be adjusted in how they are positioned when brought together/the distance between the butt ends. They now touch each other and sometimes get in each others way. Is there a way to spread them out a little when closed? I hope this makes sense!
