Your car is more than likely, going to run better than it has since you had it , yes the filter will smell of petrol.
The car is running ok now, so be unlucky to have done any damage, more chance of the petrol/diesel mix cleaned all the carbon and everything else that collects in the injector and valves.
Some one else will come on and confirm, we used to put a bit of petrol in the diesel years ago to clean everything out
