Stiff going into first gear

Hello,

1.2 Clio iii 30,000 miles approx. Very occasionally I struggle to shift into first gear from neutral - feels as if its pushing against something. Eventually it goes it but sometimes needs the clutch released then a bit of jiggering. Most times it goes in ok but not often smoothly and there is some resistance but other times it is fine - very inconsistent. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Any help would be appreciated.
