About 6 months ago my handbrake wouldn't release. (Parking brake fault on the dash) After finding on here how to reset it. It decided to work again and the fault on the dash stopped showing.
About 8 weeks ago the same happened but wouldn't reset I pulled emergency handle in the boot which released the brake. The car dash had parking brake fault for 30 seconds then check parking brake. The handbrake switch just flashed red and didn't do anything.
I then removed plug of the unit under the car gave it a blow and reconnected it. Switched the car on. Did the handbrake reset which the motor made a noise and now it goes on and off the fault has stayed on the dash parking brake fault then check parking brake.
The above has occurred twice in the last 4 weeks. I just removed fuse under the seat to reset it after pulling the handle in the boot. I have taken it all off the car and cleaned the cables etc which all move freely.
Is it normal for it to do this if I haven't had the fault reset at Renault or will it occur again and again because of a fault in the system. I aren't willing to spend a fortune on this as the car isn't worth it.
Can a second hand unit off the same year diesel car be fitted straight to the car and will it work? 100+ is a lot to pay if it doesn't work.
Could the problem be just the switch itself.
I'm confused as after the reset it'll work fine for 2 or 3 weeks of daily driving. Other than dashboard faults. The motor sounds exactly the same as it has over the last six years of ownership.
Anybody else experienced this. If so how did you rectify it. MOT due in 2 months.
Any help or advise greatly appreciated thanks in advance
Mike
