Mk2 Clio 1.4 16v Power Steering Fault

Hello All, I hope you can help.

Got an issue with a mk2 Clio 1.4 16v (2003) and its PAS.

Right, When your sitting in the car with ignition on the Steering Wheel light (PAS indicator)comes on as its supposed to but stays on when you start the engine.

BTW its the column mounted electric type PAS.

Steering is very heavy and light stays on...Unless you start moving. At a certain speed there is a dull click from the dashboard, steering wheel light goes out and steering is back to working spec. works perfectly.until you slow way down or stop. then after a couple of minutes light comes back on and steering goes heavy.

It does this at the exact speed the seat-belt indicator starts beeping and light pops up telling you to put belt on. which seems odd to me.

I understand the ABS sensors are providing vehicle (or wheel) speed to the cars ECU and/or PAS ECU. ABS light is not on when engine is started but Airbag and serv lights are intermittently, (separate issue i assume).

What I am eager to know is if anyone has any ideas, or can suggest a suitable choice of action.

So far I have jacked the front of the car up on stands so the wheels are free to rotate and turn. To simulate the issue. Ive had a good poke around by the PAS ECU, to check for loose connection or obvious problems, all looks okay, dry and clean under there.

Also ... I've just done cam-belt, water-pump and alternator change. all relays and fuses are good, unless there's a hidden PAS relay i could't find. I thought bad battery or alternator could be a cause, but getting a good 14.4 v running voltage with lights on and engine running.

So, Any Ideas?

So far I'm looking at that PAS ECU suspiciously. Its driving me crazy, Please help.
