I have a problem with my Clio and have tried searching but it’s really hard to find relevant hits. Hope someone here can give me some input. I’m Swedish and my english is not perfect when it comes to car parts but I hope I can make myself understood.
Car Model: Renault Clio II 2002, petrol, automatic gearbox, 1.4i 16V, 70.0kW, 08 / 2000-10 / 2007, K4J 710
Had problems six months ago that it suddenly started running on three cylinders. Noted that one of the ignition coils had given up. Changed all 4 to and it has been fine since.
A couple of weeks ago it began to fuss again. Completely powerless at low revs and runs on two cylinders at idle. Engine light is on (unburned fuel to the lambda probe?). Makes no difference if the engine is cold or at full operating temperature.
Engine Operation is smooth and even around 1500rpm but it requires significantly more gas than normal. If you give it some more acceleration it is like something "releases" around 2500rpm and the engine sticks up around 4-5000rpm at the same throttle position. Once at higher rpm, it feels like the engine runs normally, responds quickly to throttle and does not drink excessive fuels.
Had it to the garage the other week and got the following error code read out: "Error 3114: The ignition circuit cylinder 2/3: Break / short circuit". Got all ignition coils exchanged. At first it was fine but I barely made it home until the car started to behave exactly the same as before.
It seems quite plausible that the ignition ECU is the problem here. Could it be something else Should I check something else first?
Is it possible to change the control unit outright if I find a used one that is exactly the same, or will I run into problems if the new box is not calibrated (or the like) at a Renault Workshop?
I find the ECUs for transmission and for injection next to the battery. But where is the control box for the ignition? I try to follow the spark plug cables but the cable harness is hard to follow..
