Connections poor are an obvious point to correct, either clean or replace.
Fan making a noise when spinning...
Bearings ?
Bent/distorted? Could be housing or fan.
Summat stuck in there?
Needs a coating of looking at and you are well placed to do so
Intermittent operation could also be sign the motor brushes are on way out and can make noises if carrier is in contact with armature.
Not sure the motor would have its own cooling fan as it is connected to one.... depends how the air flow is routed, if over/past the motor, I would not expect a cooling fan.
