ABS kicking in at slow speeds

hi

if you have damaged a wheel rim then get it changed (see adverts on gumtree, (cheaper than ebay))
or a breakers yard.
to press an alloy rim back into shape is over £40+removal and fitting costs for the tyre. (ask local motorbike shops for who are the local experts in fixing alloy rims.)
so its usually cheaper to just get a better condition rim.

if you have one damaged then you need the lot rechecked at a tyre garage (get them to spin the lot up on a balance machine and check for wobbles and flat spots) damaged rims will cause vibration and loss of grip!
(with alloys always avoid pulling onto kerbs and into potholes, they are soft wheels which will deform and cost lots of money to fix.)

regarding the ABS, you need to check the ABS sensors, they have a interconnector clipped to the inner wheel arch plastic cover. wd40 in them helps keep water out.

if the speedo is ok, then its probably the OS (drivers side one) that has a problem.
check all the brake and ABS cables are clipped to the shock absorber struts correctly and are not flapping around loose.

if the cables are all ok and are undamaged, jack up the car and check each RELUCTOR RING on the back of each hub, sometimes the rings corrode and break, leaving a small gap in the ring which the ABS computer can see as a possible skidding wheel. take each wheel off and check with a good torch and for the rear you will need the handbrake off with the car choked-up to stop it moving whilst checking the rear axle wheels.
replacement reluctor rings are about £6 on ebay. but usually need a garage to strip the driveshafts or rear hubs down to fit.

if you have damaged one then you are going to need a replacement sensor, if they have corroded into the hub then its a new cable from renault at (£35+) and the cost of a indy garage to replace. (removal of a corroded sensor usually means the old one will be drilled out as they are a PITA to remove.)

Currently in mord's garage:
The CreditCard Holes sooo DEEEEP NASA have put up warning signs about a black hole on the Driveway: update, the driveway and home have fallen in...
