Scenic Automaic gearbox issue. Please help

Hey all,

Ran into a bit of trouble.. Did a full service to my Grandads 2002 Renault Megane Scenic 1.6 auto.

Oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, coolant flush, new coolant etc.

Start car up, it drives fine better than before. After about 3 miles I notice It's stuck in 1st in D mode.

Move the gear stick up and down and nothing... It gives me no input, dashboard display shows I'm in 1st, yet the gear stick is all the way in park now.

Got home, pulled lining up and pressed the emergency release button underneath to try rectify it to no avail.

Car stuck in 1st, and now can't start the engine as you have to be in Park.

I've obviously caused this by doing the service (even though it drove fine first 3 miles) what could have I done? I did everything meticulously, only thing I can think of is maybe when draining coolant (from thermostat) I got some wires wet.. maybe that's the cause? Also disconnected battery at one point.

I'm in the s*** my Grandad needs the car regularly and I can't afford a mobile mechanic.
