Laguna 2 a/c, recirculate and heated window problem

Evening all,

A slightly unusual one. I have the manual laguna 2 heater. Three round dials with buttons in the centre of each dial.

Far left turns on a/c and is the temperature dial. Middle turns on the heated rear screen and is the blower direction dial and the right turns on recirculate and is the blower power dial.

So my blower works on all power settings, and the temperature and direction both work as they should. The back lights to the dials also work so there is clearly power to the unit in general.

However the buttons don't do anything. They don't do their function and they don't light up when pressed.

I tried replacing the unit but it made no difference. Since this is a slightly unusual issue I'd be surprised if both units were dodgy. However I can't fully discount it.

As a side issue my reverse lights don't work, and the bulbs aren't at fault.

Fuse f4 in the cab controls both heater and reverse lights but all the fuses at the end of the dash have continuity. I checked the fuses under the bonnet but no others (if there are any).

From the Haynes wiring diagrams the heated screen relay also gives a pink wire to the a/c. So if that relay dies, it could maybe effect both?

That wouldn't explain the recirculate. On another side note the car fogs up very badly after about ten minutes. So its possible the recirculate function is permanently on. Could just be that it defaults to on in the absence of power.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the inside of the panel? Whatever would light the buttons would be a good place to start. Is it an external relay that does it? And physically where would they be?

A head scratcher.
