its the door handle, the linkage from the back of the handle to the lock mechanism has either disconnected or broken off.

time for a replacement from a similar car in a breakers yard.
small sockets, spanners and torx bits to remove and replace. (after you have removed the inner door card (might need new mastic on a reel from a dealership to reseal and water proof.)
the window will probably be in the way, but you can either remove it or work around it (just a bit more fiddly)
