Engine management light

Hi i own an espace 3 2.2dci manual transmission.My problem is as follows,i was driving home from work 40mph and the car gave a bit of a judder,i accelerated to 50mph and it did it again followed by the engine warning light coming on showing a squiggely line then the word service,then limp mode.Any ideas as to the problem,can't be egr as its been blanked off for years.Many thanks in advance
