scenic 2 new spring, strut bearing and strut clicking

Hi Everyone
I have just replaced the suspension strut, spring and strut top bearing on the drivers side of my 54 plate scenic grande.

After we had bolted the 3 bolts on the strut top back into place then positioned the bottom of the strut back into the hub it looked like the strut top had come away slightly from the white plastic bit. on the opposite side from the spring locator but once we lowered the car on it wheel it pushed back together and drove smooth,
I drove to work the next day 40 miles away and it was fine. On the way home I heard a clicking coming from what sounds like the strut top bearing when turning slowly round corners, if I turn the wheel while feeling the spring I feel the spring vibrate when I here the click, it really sounds like the strut bearing. is there any way I could put it on wrong or could it be faulty from manufacture?
Just a quick not we did put a thin washer on the middle shaft nut as it didnt come with a washer but we thought it could do with one. i doubt thats the problem tho but you never know.
