Timing belt change fault
Hi guys, yesterday I had a mobile mechanic change my timing belt and water pump on a Scenic 1.6L 2004.
I just left the guy to it after an assurance he had done this job on this particular car many times in the past.
The car was started with the timing belt cover still off and engine jacked up, but was roughly in it's proper position, so felt a little 'lumpy', but it ticked over lovely.
So we stopped the engine and the mechanic proceeded to fit all the parts back on my car.
The radiator was filled back up with coolant and he took it for a quick run round the block, came back and topped up a little more.
I start my car the next morning to find it idles at 1100rpm and if I touch the accelerator it shoots up to 2000rpm and refuses to come back down.
I had the engine running for at least 15 minutes, heater on full blast and kept an eye on water level.
It did go down a little so just topped up, but still idling ridiculously fast and fan did not come on once in all that time.
I've taken the bolt out of the thermostat bleed and hot water does come out so tightened it back up and thoroughly squeezed all pipes but not made any difference.
Can anyone offer me any advice please
