Rear disc/bearing change for Clio dci 100.
Recently it has come to my attention that my brakes have been getting a little lazy, so with my MOT looming I figured I should sort them out.
I recently changed the front discs and pads, which proved a bit awkward, but I got there in the end. The caliper mounting bolts were a *******! Otherwise, not too bad.
After being told by a local garage that they would need to inspect my rear drums/shoes to figure out what parts were needed to overhaul the rear brakes, and me correcting them by saying it has discs all round.. followed by the moron sniggering and saying, "It defo wont have rear discs mate, they'll be drums, I'll put a £100 on it", I shook on it and I showed him (he never paid up the £100 quid though!). His excuse was that he thought only the sport variants had rear discs. I lost confidence at this point and decided to go it alone.
I have managed to source some new Brembo discs and pads for the rear with preinstalled wheel bearings (for a total of about £44.50 delivered ).
I am in the process of ordering a breaker bar and socket to remove the stub axle nuts, and understand it is a 30mm socket I need, is this correct?
I also understand I need to renew the axle nuts. Does anyone know where the best place to get them is? A link would be great if anyone has one, as I've been unable to find much info on this and would like to get all parts and tools ready prior to commencing the work.
I also understand that the abs ring can likely be switched from the old hub/disc to the new one, is this correct?
Sorry if these are daft questions. It is the first time I've ever done anything like this on a car as I have spent most of my adult life riding and working on motorcycles.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
