Reanualt Laguna II Electric Handbrake Fault Sign is on but handbrake still works fine

Hi, I bought my Laguna in 2014 and since then the handbrake fault has come on 3 times. The first two times I took it to a garage where the mechanic restarts the electrics while doing a diagnostic test and the handbrake fault light goes away which is great but its costing me £40 every time. The handbrake fault has just come back on for the thrid time but rather thank spending another £40 to sort out I was hoping someone could let me know how I could rest the electric handbrake myself or rest the electrics of the car myself. The mechanic did say I could try and de-attach the battery for 30mins to reset the electrics and I tried this but it didnt work.

I'm not great with electrics or cars in general so please could you keep it simple for me to understand.
