I would go with E.G.R also, I bought a 206 van for a workhorse a few years ago, engine management light was on. I thought the rocker cover was leaking
oil, and that was the start of discovery. Didn't know what an
egr was at that stage, but I heard water sloshing around in a catch tank in front of engine, took that out and it was full of gunky water, traced the hoses back, ended up to the point I had to take the inlet manifold off the engine, everything was completely choked, instead of the holes being 50 pence size, they were down to penny size, there was that much black gunk build up caused by the
egr. I blanked the
egr off so the
ecu still thought it was operational, and what a difference the clean out made. I also changed the glow plugs as the engine churned too much for my liking, and air filter, also fuel filter! After that, the mpg was so much higher, and the black reek was no longer there. It smoked bad when it was revved before, after cleanup it didn't smoke anymore, and the management light went off, was a different van altogether after that!
