Blown gasket on 15? Year old Megane...car still goes fine...

Blown gasket on 15? Year old Megane...car still goes fine...

Sorry to be so ignorant...I know nothing...my Q might sound idiotic.
Old Megane, LHD, France. (15? 16? Yrs old)
Stuck in mud, was pleased to ..wheelie/rev... it out of about 8 inches of sticky mud.
It got very hot, I saw steam from the bonnet. But drove away fine..
Couple of days later, patches of 'rainbow' ...oil? Diesel? And oil mixed with rain...white ..
On a big area under car ...and around it.
Thought I'd killed it...looked under bonnet for clues.
All along the top of the engine, oil could be seen ...BUT...not JUST oil..as the stuff stuck to the engine was a strange textured mass of 'bread crumbs' ...or tiny tea leaves, mixed in with the oil.
My GUESS...GUESS...was...that the thing that has blown...is not, in fact, the gasket...BUT...some kind of *compound additive*, filler.... that had been used the last time the gasket blew, with the previous owner.
OK...it had worked until I seriously over heated the engine...so ...why not try some more?
I went to Norautos, and kind fellow inspected it...said yes...main head gasket blown, in his opinion, with oil leaks and small fuel leak,
I bought a can of filler, which he said should be added in very small doses, via the oil cap.
Also, another can of filler for the radiator leak ( I knew about that a couple of weeks ago)
Now, I don't understand what happens.
I never drive fast, always small country roads, and since the first puddles of oil and fuel which looked
big, to me, and after adding a small quantity of the stop oil leak, stuff ...via the oil cap
There seems to be nothing coming out of the engine, via the 'blown gasket' now, except a couple of tiny drips, over night.
The oil is not disappearing on the dip stick.
I can't see any evidence of more fuel leaking....but plan to dust it all with talcum powder ...to make any leaks show up...
The guy at Norauto did not seem hopeful on my behalf. He looked grim and thought it would be a rebuild for the engine.
So....why isn't it?
Why is the car *working*, apparently ok...with that serious blow out?
And is it likely to blow the little bit of new oil leak filler.... out again, completely.... pretty soon?
Do you think the oily tea-leaf/sawdust/discharge from where the gasket should have been...is in fact, as I suspect...blown out 'filler'...that can be replaced, with the oil leak filler, from Norauto? ('Bar', something).
Is it working ...because I drive slowly ( rarely more than 50 kmph) and if I drive faster or drive up more hills...
it will blow out again soon?
I feel as if I'm sitting in a time bomb, but... everything seems OK so far...
Any opinion offered would be gratefully received..
NO WAY..can I afford a rebuild or replacement engine. ?
