Suspension clanking sound

I'm very clued up when it comes to vehicle mechanics but this one has me completely beat. When driving along when the suspension hits a bump in the road I get a clanking sound to almost a rattle, this is the best way to describe it. Its not your typical ball joint noise. This sound is only coming from left (n/s). My car is a 2006 Megane 1.6 VVT maxim.
