Trafic Gearbox

My 2012 Trafic has a 6-speed 'box and has covered just 41000 miles. The clutch slave-cylinder disintegrated at 37000 miles and was replaced by Renault even though out of warranty.
Yesterday the gearbox started making a high-pitched noise under load in 2nd gear. This ceased after a stop and then did the same again today.
Was the gearbox properly filled with oil afterwards?
How can I, INDEPENDENT OF THE LOCAL DEALER, ratify the amount currently in there?
A quick check with local Renault dealer stated Renault UK unaware of any gearbox problems which is now hard for me to comprehend. Technician there said it could be a 'dry-bearing'. (How & Why? unless as above.)
I have written to Renault UK & the dealer asking how and why etc.
A local gearbox specialist has repaired seven Trafic 'boxes in the last 2 weeks. Worst case cost to me if Renault UK won't play ball, (it's out of warranty), quoted as about £1000 incl' VAT.
If anybody has any hard information that I can use to pursue my dialogue with Renault UK, (or indeed any other robust advice), I would be most grateful!
