Please help!

Hi, I have a Renault Clio 2002 1.5 dci and recently it has been giving me some problems which I'm not sure are connected but need to know how to fix them!

- acceleration feels a lot more sluggish than it used to be
- Large amounts of white smoke coming from the exhaust when accelerating
- the brakes feel like they are grinding occasionally when I use them even when I break slowly

I had my mot last month and nothing was found and I really need to know whether this is worth fixing. I don't want to have to get rid of my baby
