1974 Model 112 Electric Lift....Questions...
Hello everyone, new to group but have been lurking here for a while. I am scratching my head on something so I thought I would ask.....

Tractor is a 1974 JD 112 with electric lift and a Kohler K301 engine. Dad bought it new in January 1974, and I spent much of my youth on it mowing a number of properties they had back then. Dad passed about 7 years ago and it's now mine. I took it to the shop he went to long term for a check up, and long story short...they kept it 2 months and it looks like a gorilla with a bad attitude worked on it. It ran only a few weeks and I parked it. Health kept me from digging into it, but I have now.

I found two condensers in the circuit, the coil smashed and the bracket for it bent way out of shape, bad points, the wrong spark plug and the deck had been cut by a pedal (maybe to get it off?). I have replaced the battery, points, plug, condenser, coil and bracket and it ran much better. Also replaced front tires and bearings while I was at it. A week ago it died completely (no turn over, no run) and it turned out to be a broken wire for the safety switch. I put on a new end and it was fine....until....

I was mowing and it seemed like the mower deck wasn't shutting off when I moved the handle. It became intermittent and shut off sometimes. The weather started to go bad quickly (Florida), and I started back for the garage- when the engine began surging and cutting off. Sounded like fuel starvation, and it died. I had a can of starter fluid nearby, and it wouldn't start again. Acted like no spark. I had to cover it and leave it out back for a couple of days. Checking the wiring, I found no 12 volt at the positive side of the coil. I swapped in a new ignition switch and found no change. It cranked but wouldn't start. I got test leads to just run a hot to the coil the next day to get it back inside......The next day...it wouldn't even crank. Battery shows a good charge on it still.

There is so little in the circuit, I can't imagine what it might be. Is there some sort of chronic issue that sounds like this? I believe the safety switch is in both the ignition and starting circuit, but don't see anything in the 12 volt feed to the coil...am I missing something simple? Will have to pull the battery tray again to dig into it, but was hoping for direction first!
Agrifab 44 Lawn Sweeper
Hey folks. I bought the Agrifab Lawn Sweeper to save some money on leaf cleanup this year, vs Power Flow.

So far I'm not too impressed. It was missing a few parts, and the front of it is already badly dented from going over a small tree stump. Plus every time I go down a hill to the bottom, the bag dumps part of the contents out as it scrapes along the ground.

Does anyone else have experience of Lawn Sweepers on hilly properties? Did I just make the wrong choice?

I'm thinking to return it and pony up for the Power Flow, maybe JD will have a fall discount.
Hello everyone from Indiana, former Oklahoma
Have worked on tractors (seems like a very long time), restored old ones, worked for IH, JD. Now have JD4400 Compact Utility.
Have a blessed day.
Ford 3000 vacuum advance
I have a 1966 gas Ford 3000, does anyone know what the part # for the vacuum advance tube is? The tube on ours broke. Or does the tractor need this?
G.A.S. Flare Up
With the MOW-IN just around the corner and a half empty enclosed trailer taunting me (Barn is full).

My G.A.S. is acting up....have been slowly starting to acquire stuff locally..... Couldn't find anything at CVS to address the issue...

A nice leaf blower attachment would help alleviate some of the symptoms :tango_face_devil:
New to the forum
Hey all, stumbled upon the forum looking for some help on my Garden tractor. Seems full of good info
Three weeks vacation?
Hernia repair today- second recurrence. First done in 1977, second in 2005. This is going to impact my Fall projects!

On the bright side, I didn’t let its presence impact my Spring and Summer schedule: tiller repaired, garden in and maintained, lawns kept up, trees sawn and bucked ...among other mundane chores. It was time to get it done, though, ahead of Winter’s rigors.

And now I can convalesce and forget about work for a while :tango_face_smile:
Belt size for 2 Belt Mower Deck
I need to know the belt size for the 2 belt mower deck. I only need the outside spindle pulley belts. I assume they are the same size. Anybody know? I have the PTO belt.

I want to setup my tension pulleys. I would like to start with the correct belts size.

Good buy?
Need some help, guys, as I am a total novice and have never owned a rider: Simplicity Sunstar 20H, front & mid pto, diff lock, 1900+ hours (woof!), 48” deck, rollers look good, couple dinged rims, tire weights, hydraulic deck lift only, and power steering. No 3 pt but different kind of rear end than I’m used to seeing. Looks like it cuts well. Attached some photos. Hoping to pickup tomorrow. $500 handshake price. My questions are “Should I?” and “any watchouts?” My intent is to get a good cut. Only have a small lot now (less than 1/2 acre) but intend to have more in the future and would like to potentially use for trailer around yard loaded with wood/mulch/riprap, etc. Want something built solid that will last a while and something that is capable of tossing some small implements on the back for a small garden or aeration/dethatching. I can be handy. All input is much appreciated!

04 cub Zforce 44" deck issues - crooked and not lowering all the way, bent?

04 cub Zforce 44" deck issues - crooked and not lowering all the way, bent?
Hi fellas,

Have done a few thing fixing up this old 2004 cub zforce 44 that my FIL bought used.

Downloaded all the manuals, researched online countless hours, not coming up with much so I figured asking the community may be my last option at learning about this problem.

Im new to repairs like this, I will try to write a short description, link to pics then go into detail lower incase that helps:

1) Deck is slightly higher on LHS, all tire pressure is to spec, the deck adjustment link on LHS cant be lowered any more, I adjusted it as low as possible

2) Possibly related issue: Deck adjustment works but the #2 and #1 lowest positions do not move the deck at all.

Pics of the deck adjustment diagram, distant shot of mower showing the LHS is higher, plus shots of the LH/RHS:
https://imgur.com/a/eRiHkuy

Short vid of deck height lever not lowering all the way

The deck is high on the left side. This deck can only be adjusted side to side by an adjustable link on the left side. The problem is, as you can see in my pics that jam nut is adjusted to the very lowest point, almost not fully threaded but the deck is still too high on the LHS.

I dont think the deck height system is seized up because I took deck off, then tried raising/lowering the height lever. The brackets/hangers on the mower move through all the height positions properly, it even moves when adjusted to #2 and #1 positions unlike when the deck is installed.

Could this be caused by mounting points on the deck being bent? I am looking at the removed deck and some of the mounts seem like they may be bent but is there a way to measure this somehow so I can provide more data to hopefully track these problems down?

Thanks for your time fellas, i'm a newbie when it comes to mowers and wanting to learn about repairing them -- hope im not being too annoyingly clueless, heh

Deck compatibility help
Anyone know if a deck off an x500 series machine will fit on a 455? Mine is pretty worn and I found a good deal on one but it’s a couple hours away, bringing mine to check would be tough.

Thanks!

D155 won't move (much)
Greetings all,

Halfway through mowing my 2+ acres this morning, my D155 decided that it no longer wanted to move forward. I can't correlate a specific action (hitting a rock, etc.) to the lack of movement. I can get it to move in reverse, but it doesn't go as fast as normal. The owner's manual provided two helpful (?!?) suggestions:

1. Make sure parking brake is off
2. Make sure bypass rod is not pulled out.

I ensured that both conditions are true, so I'm left wondering what else might be the issue. It's acting as if the parking brake is partially or mostly engaged, since engaging the forward motion pedal for an extended period creates a smell similar to a slipping belt. I assume I'm going to have to lift the rear end to see if there's something interfering with the parking brake mechanism and the transmission drive belt. Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Thanks!
A 3rd Sears In Our Lineup
I was going to wait until we started on the project but decided I may as well start one now.

A few weeks ago Adam, a friend I used to work with, came by and we swapped some tires on our tire machine for him for his truck. While in the garage he noticed my 2 Sears and said "I have an SS/16 out in the pasture, and if you want it it's yours free". Me, not being able to turn down that special F word we went to pick it up Monday evening.

He told me it was rough, and man was he right. The story goes that when him and his family moved into a new house 15 years ago (Adam was 14), he found this under a collapsed barn and dug it out and started messing with it. Shortly after he got his first truck project and this got left in the pasture. The hood also got ran over at some point

While checking out the tractor I noticed the extension handle and tiller lift arms, so I started scanning the fence row and saw the gold of the tillers chain case. I asked Adam if that was the tiller for it and he said "yep, want it". What was I going to do, leave it there? :sidelaugh

The motor is locked solid due to no exhaust on it, the transmission turns but won't shift even tho hi-lo works. The nosecone is toast, however the dash is not cracked at all and only has a few holes added to it. We have 2 parts 16hp Onans in the barn so we may make a franken-motor, or just wait for something to come up. Pop's said he would like to get it going to be "his tractor" to put his sickle mower on so I will keep and eye out. From the folks of the SSBTC they believe it is a 1975 model. Not quite sure what we will do with the tractor, but the tiller will be revived

It has been repowered by a '92 5hp B&S Industrial but the pulley on it is shattered and the belts are missing. A framework was added under the engine so all of that has to be figured out also. The tiller tines still half at least half there life left. The engine turns over and has compression tho so I think it may be salvageable

Enough jibber jabber, here are the pictures

Can't find intake to carb linkage for Magnum MV20S
I have a Magnum MV20S-57529 and I can't seem to locate the linkage that goes from the intake manifold to the carb. There's the linkage that goes up from the governor to the one on the intake manifold, then there's one that goes from the manifold to the carb (the one I'm missing). I've looked in the diagrams and can't find it. Pics attached of the weird bent linkage that's there.

John Deere 455 Landscape Rake
Looking to buy a landscape rake for my 455 JD, what does everyone recommend?
John Deere Model 70 Front Loader Hoses
Hello all,
I recently purchased a 70 loader to mount on my 755. The hoses are all pretty much shot and looking to replace them with hoses other than expensive JD parts. Who ever had loader before has a mix of 1/4" to 3/8" hoses and adapters. Can someone tell me what size hose is standard for this loader. I'm inclined to think the cylinder connections could be 1/4" since the steel hydraulic tubing is 3/8" OD and if designed with safety margin could make the ID 1/4". But I don't want to replace all the hoses with 1/4" only to find it restricts fluid flow too much.

Thanks for any insights...
Thanks for adding me to the group!
Hi all, looking to join the ranks of JD ownership. Need some help with deciding on a used model. will post question in appropriate forum (I hope)
Thanks,
Frank
Lawn Boy ovehaul was a success!
Over the past month or so I've been busy working on my tired '75 7264. I went in and gave the cylinder a hone, installed new rings, bearings, gaskets and seals. Had some hiccups with some aspects but in the end it all worked out.

It starts up and runs good. The piston slap and grinding noise are gone and it burbles nicley. It chews approximately 8" grass like it's nothing and sounds good under load.

A big thanks to the members of this forum. A good chunk of this rebuild relied on your guys' advice and in the end I have an almost new engine again :)

Also big shout out too rmotorsports for the decals. They look just like the originals and are a great price!

New to me YTS4500

New to me YTS4500
After inquiring and looking at a https://www.mytractorforum.com/14-cr...01-gt5000.html earlier today, it ended up not being the one for me at the time. While it's a machine that many people recommended, this particular one was more worse for wear than the grainy pictures led on.

So.....I had a plan "B" and I brought this home right before I had to leave for work. While it's definitely more mower than tractor, for my intended use I am happy with my decision.

More pics tomorrow after clean, polish and a closer look. These were from the seller.

Lower radiator hose size on GC1705
Anyone know the size of the lower radiator hose on a GC1705? Seems to be 1 1/4". I want to install a heater in this hose and need to order the right size. Not sure if I'm better off using one of those or just going for the freeze plug block heater.
John dere 48 inch 2000 rpm tiller
I am looking at a john deere 48 inch 2000 rpm tiller from a 430 to ru on a yanmar. Can I put a regular PTO shaft on it and make it work with a regular 540 rear pto? The john deere has the male end and I need to put a female end to adapt to a Myanmar 1500 tractor is this possible?

Brush hog/ finish mower help
I just bought a brush hog for my 8n to mow my pasture ground. I was hoping to be able to mow my yard with it but my yard is too uneven. Does anyone have any ideas for modifications? Im looking at getting a finish mower but they are so expensive. It cut good but the edges just kept digging in
GC1720 Seat / Steering Wheel Issue
I am in the market for a SCUT and am between the GC1720 or the Kioti CS2510. In driving both of them it seems like the steering wheel on the GC1720 is either really low, or the seat is really high. This seems to be due to the swivel seat on the GC so I am certain it's a seat issue. Am I the only person that notices this? Am I crazy to not buy the GC because of it? The Kioti is equipped the same and other than a $500 difference, they are very similar in capabilities.

Are there aftermarket solutions for the seat height or steering wheel height? I've tried to stretch my arms, but they just won't give.

Thanks
1962 finally running should I use an engine flush
Hello MTF I have finally gotten my 62 running after purchasing from CL about a year ago. I have a question on using or not using an engine flush to de-sludge the oil system. I always pay attention to oil pressure and at first start the pressure is great!!
The last weekend I had it running and eating up some brush I looked down and in horror noticed no oil pressure. I shut it down and dragged it back to the garage. Checked level, fittings and in general looked for leaks.....all good nothing to speak of. I fired it back up and pressure was great again! Fearing a circulation issue I did not run it long maybe 5 mins and pressure was good. Started back at the brush and 15 min later notice lower pressure. Shut it down and dragged to the garage again.

I am thinking about doing an oil flush as I am thinking there could be some crud and sludge that is breaking loose now that it is running again after sitting for sooooo long. I the guy I bought it from estimates 10-12 years!!! While working many other issues drained and changed oil and filters so I know the majority of what is there is good stuff.

Just wanted to know y’all think about a chemical flush to better clean the oil system. I would prefer not to tear the entire thing apart to de-sludge. But wanted to hear what the experts think!!! 👍

Thanks in advance MTF
Who made the mid 60's Sears mowers
I got a free old mower. I posted in the backyard section looking to identify. It was suggested it might me a MTD. So it got moved to MTD section.

I finally cleaned it up a bit and found an info tag. It is a JC Penney. So I called MTD today and gave them the numbers I found. They say it is not made by them.

So after hours at looking a pics on google, I decided it most closely looks like a mid 60's Sears custom. But this is a lawn tractor, not a garden tractor. But the resemblance is undeniable. Especially the fenders and deck.

So who made the early Sears stuff. Then I can search that company for info in the correct forum location.

Good morning all. Newby both to the site and to being a tractor owner. Bought an older JD model 2010. Does anybody else have them and what parts should I be stocking? Thanks, Ben.

Thanks for the welcome!
New to this tractor craze
Hi everyone... well I am new to this tractor community. Due to a divorce I am now a proud owner of a few sears garden tractors and a John Deere 50. I use the sears tractors to do yard work and I can honestly say I love them. So in my collection I have the following ( for now, I have to give him 2) ... 1968 Sears SS/12 completely restored, 1970 Sears SS/12, 1972 Sears SS/15, 1974 Sears SS16, 1975 Sears ST/10X and a John Deere 50. I can say it’s hard to decide which 2 of the sears tractors from the 70’s do I give him. No matter which ones will remain with me I love the idea that if I have any issues, I have a group of people here that can offer me guidance when it comes to these tractors. I have already been scrolling the forums and I can tell you that you guys know your tractors and are really helpful. Look forward to reading forums and chatting with you guys.
ISO a snowthrower for my DLT3000
I recently acquired a DLT3000 with a 25HP Briggs and Stratton V Twin.

Something with a 25HP engine is just screaming to move some snow. Heck, it's a lot of power just to mow some grass.

So I am on the hunt for an appropriate snowthrower attachment.

I found an Haban snowthrower on Craigslist that the guy actually had mounted to a DLT3000, so I knew it would work. However, after confirming that I had cash and just needed an address, he stopped communicating with me and now the listing is gone. I have been texting him about a month now asking for an address and now I left a voice mail but still no response.

Anyway, is there anybody here that has a DLT3000 with a snowthrower attachment that I can get some model numbers off of? Or a website that can hook me up with the correct info?

Thanks in advance.
Scored a snow plow for my GT18. Anyone have one. I need a measurement
So I found the proper plow my my GT18. It's model #486.244020. It's mostly complete except for the front hangers are missing. The manual that came with it :tango_face_wink: calls them hitch plates. Part number 23652. They are available from sears for $18 each plus shipping.

If someone has these and could give me some measurement I could make them and save my cash. Or better yet anyone have a pair to part with.

And the manual was printed the same year as my mower was made, 1987. Check out the lines under the Craftsman logo. Matches the lines on my GT,,,lol. I'd have to say this is the right plow.

Lurker to Participant
Hey all. Random reader/admirer here turned member, and now finally got a chance to follow through with some more steps.

Nothing real special to brag about/show off.. No tractors or riding mowers (don't have the room), but I do have a walk-behind mower collection amassing the last couple summers. Some are keepers and others are in rotation (obtain, fix, clean, sell). Some keepers have been moved out while other ones take their place, etc. Some others wind up just being parts units.
The 'keepers' have been turning green... as per my avatar.
At any rate, step complete.

Husqvarna ts242 EE error code
Hey guys. I had a mandrel snap while mowing. I've replaced it with a new one and got everything back together but I'm getting the blade switch symbol coming up. It's not engaged when I start the mower. It's in the down position but it keeps flashing and nothing happens when I try to engage the clutch.

Any ideas?
I've attached the error information from my manual.

Sunstar, 1918H, 1920H 46" Two Stage Snowblower MINNESOTA
Selling my Simplicity mfg# 1691360
2 stage snowblower, electric chute control and complete hitch/lift rod. I had it on my Deutz Allis 1920H. This unit is in very good shape with minimal wear. All bearings and u-joints are solid. No welding repairs and none are needed. These were built by Berco for Simplicity. Includes all necessary wiring and shafts for a direct bolt installation. We bought a house in town with a small driveway so I am using my Allis 917H for snow clearing.

These fit many models: Simplicity Sunstar, Deutz Allis 1918 and 1920, Massey and Agco equivalents.

Pictures are of it today after coming out of storage in garage. I had just finished spraying off with water so rust looks worse than it is. Rust seen is surface rust that I chose to leave alone since I am selling.

MF40 Industrial Model - Oil Pressure
I have a mid-70's model MF40 that I purchased about a year ago and transported it to my hunting land in GA. When I purchased it, the previous owner stated that the engine had been rebuilt and had less than 25 hours on it. I have since added less than ten hours to the tractor, all over the past couple of weekends. I have noticed the oil pressure is high (60 plus pounds) when it is cool and just cranked. As an hour or two of use, the pressure continues to drop lower and lower. The pressure seems to stabilize at 25-30 pounds when the RPM's are at 1500 - 1800. When the throttle is decreased to idle, the pressure continues to drop to just less than ten pounds.
A few weeks back< I purchased a service manual for this model. The comment in the manual regarding oil pressure is as follows:

"The actual pressure may vary with individual engines, but the oil pressure at maximum engine speed and normal working temperature should be 30-60 PSI. There will be a pressure drop while idling and a slight decrease in normal pressure when the engine is hot."

I guess I should mention that the engine is the Perkins 3 cyl. engine, not the gas model. The engine remains well within the normal temperature range during operation, and does not seem to have any issues running, operating at idle, etc.

Am I overly concerned or should I do any of the following?

Change oil & filter
Replace the oil pump
Connect another gauge to confirm accurate pressure

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Aaron

Engine Oil
I have a 2013 LT2000 and it has a Briggs and Stratton 21hp Gold+ engine, what oil should I use in it? I am almost certain I would use 10w30 but I want to make sure. Climate is typical central Alabama. Thanks for any answers to my question.

Ford 1620 4x4 issues
I recently bought a Ford 1620 4x4 tractor and when I engage the 4x4, it pops out and makes a clunking noise. I haven't bought a manual yet so not real sure what to look for. Also, when i engage the PTO, it sometimes makes similar noises. It seems to turn fine. Are these issues related? Any info would be appreciated.
Z445 kawasaki engine
A friend has a z445 with a kawasaki fh921v-cs37 engine. On kawasaki website, they do not acknowledge that a cs37 exists. Turns out, it is spec-ed specifically for john deere, at least according to the john deere dealer. Dealer claims there are no cross references for parts. I don't believe him. Needs a rod and crank. Does anyone know if the parts I this engine can cross reference to a similar kawasaki?

630 bobcat
Hi everyone, I am working on a 630 bobcat pedal linkage, where it crosses under the pump I have what looks like a rectangle sticking up with a quick in holding the pivot point of the linkage bar down and its so sloppy that the left foot peddle hardly works. The parts book shows a bolt and bushing there. What am I missing? Also I need to put new seals in the front axle, do I really need a $390 seal installation tool to do it

new here wanting to get some help with my nh. looking forward to meeting new users.
Growing up with Gravelys (Long Read)
Some of my earliest memories were sitting on my dads old 1970 408 with my mom driving plowing my grandfathers garden. Yes, I said plowing! My dad, who is now in his 70's, only bought one riding mower new in his life. That was a 1970 Gravely 408 for $450. In the late 70's he decided to give it to my grandfather, who had no grass to mow, but did have a 3 acre field that needed plowing. So he proceeded to build a rear lift and modified some old plows he had to do the job, he also made a scrape blade to keep his driveway smooth. Now, my granddad was no small guy, he weighed somewhere in the 300 lbs range.

Sometime around 1988 the rearend went out on the 408...

Flash forward about 12 years, and the 408 was about to get scrapped. This was just before I got acclimated to the internet. Growing up in Georgia, I had only seen maybe two other Gravely's in my life. An 812 a local doctor had, and a two wheel tractor near my parents house. Apparently in the 70's, the son of the person who owned the local Ford dealership sold Gravely's for a short time out of the dealership.

I couldn't let the old girl go to the crusher. I ended up spending $400 on new gears for the rearend trying to put it back together, it had been dissembled long ago and left outside. The main gear was worn and had been lost. Little did I know several other gears were lost too. Hence the price for getting the transmission back together. Luckily, I found an old Gravely dealership in Kentucky that had all the gears.

Since then, the tractor is sitting in the corner waiting for a complete restoration. We no longer have the original deck, but have another complete 408 with deck, (its a later red and white model).

In the mid 2000's my dad and I picked up 4 more Gravelys, a 67 424, a commercial 430 with an onan, a 812 with hydro lift and a 818T. The 818 was repainted in 05 for my mom to use, which she never did, my brother used it 10 years ago for a short time, he rode it hard and put it away wet!

My wife and I moved into a home on 5 acres last year. We, (I) wanted something that could help with all the landscaping we need to do around here (ie, Kubota). I sold my collection of garden tractors, but I'm not ready to pull the trigger on a diesel tractor, I need more funds to buy what I'm looking for.

So out comes the 818T after a ten year hibernation of sitting under a ragged tarp. I have to say I really enjoy this tractor! I have some bugs to work out but so far its been great! Here's some photos from yesterday.

Yanmar YM155D quit
Took my Yanmar out to disc the garden and about a couple of minutes into it, the engine started making kind of a clacking noise then quit. Just before it quit I glanced at the oil pressure gauge and all looked well. I tried restarting but seemed to turn over kind of different. I decided I'll try to restart after giving the battery a full charge. Oil level on dipstick is normal. I'm sure where to start?

mower lift links
Hi all
Does anybody out there know or have access to the demensions of the mower deck lift links as mine are missing. I have a 73 or 74 mtd 990 without the quick attach deck. by the way it is a 42" deck. I should add that it is not the links on the deck itself but the two that actually lift the deck. They go from the lift arm to the pivot.
Thanks in adavance
Photoshoot of the 12v
Did a few more things to the 12v recently such as a 4th gen heavy duty Moog front steering linkage kit, replacement of a few leaking seals and a matching Fabfours rear off road bumper. This thing rips!
