Intermittent Cooling Gauge Fluctuation

Hello

My weekend commute involves around an hours motorway drive. Driving normally the temperature gauge is right in the middle, but when I'm on the motorway the coolant temperature gauge will intermittently peak to the maximum, then go back down to the middle mark immediately. When the gauge peaks the "stop" and red engine "stop" warning lights both come on, then go off when the gauge drops to the middle again.
This also happens on long, gradual hills - the temperature peaks when I get to the top of the hill,

This has been happening for the last 2 months, and there is no change in how the car drives and performs whatsoever, so I don't know if this is a knackered coolant temperature sensor.

I would really appreciate some help on why this may be happening and what to do about it.

Thanks!

Megane Mk2 ABS issue 2003 1.6 16v petrol

Hi All,

Me again with my problem Megane!!

Ok so I have been having a problem with the ABS, Stop and handbrake light coming on while driving and staying on. They all ping on at the same time. Sometimes they will come on straight after starting the car sometimes they come on after a few miles of driving the car. The brakes sometimes make a grinding noise when braking hard... this sounds like it is from one caliper only. The MOT has failed due to this as they pinged on during the mot which is a pain I have checked the fluid level and all seems fine. I have checked the fuse and it is fine. I did change the rear discs for some non genuine Renault ones and it appears from what I remember this issue has been there since changing them. The car stops as it should when braking it is just a pain in the rear....literally

All help and advice appreciated as always

possible central locking issue

Bought a 1997 Clio Mk II and both the passenger side and driver side barrel locks were knackered - key just spins in them. Bought a new set, fitted the passenger side and it works perfectly. However I've fitted the driver's side one and it now locks the door, but does not unlock it. When viewing it from the inside, you can see the arm moving sufficiently to unlock the door but it just doesn't. Also, locking the door on the driver's side does not activate the central locking. Therefore I am led to believe that this may be a central locking issue. All of the doors lock and unlock fine via the central locking button inside the car however.

If anyone has any ideas on this I would be very grateful as it has left me a bit stumped

Hiya, A problem with our 2010 Scenic ABS pump has started. It went fairly quickly and was picked up at the NCT recently (failed). It is my wife's car and she may not have noticed it going having been driving it all the time. Have not priced them but garage man reckons that it is about €1500 to replace. Laguna II fuel gauge dancing

Hey folks,

So today whilst warming the engine in preparation for an oil change I noticed the fuel gauge having a dance... The needle was moving from half way down to empty then back to half way continuously, which it strange.
I did the dash diagnostic thing by holding the button on the right stalk and inserting the card and all seemed to function normally, however now the needle it staying at completely empty all the time, so can anyone shed some light on to why it was dancing and why it is now staying on empty? My car is a 2007 laguna 1.9 dci and here is a video of it dancing.

My first campervan

Hi, i'm new here and I have just purchased my first campervan, a Renault Trafic T1000 1.4 1985, very old i know but i couldn't turn it down at only £200 or else it would have met the scrap man!!
It is in really good condition for its age, i think there's more rust on my 2002 Mercedes vito lol.

Is there anything in particular i should look at or check?? I have already looked at sills, crossmembers, bulkheads etc and all have only surface rust on, if any at all.
It also came with a jammed packed full service history in a a4 folder, so in all i think is a good start into the campervan world and i look forward to having some holidays in it

Feel free to look the pictures of it

Check ESP text shown in car display and fault code read with CLIP is DTC406396.

Where is the yaw-rate/lateral-acceleration sensor located in Laguna III (2011)?

I couldn't find it from inside the console between front seats. I assume it is bolted properly to chassis, so it cannot be inside dashboard.

F4R idle control valve

Re: F4R idle control valve

hi
the throttle body is at the back of the engine on the air intake.

the F4R should have a dephaser pulley? check for a cable between the pencil coil 4(left side of engine) and the oil filler / engine mount.

how does it sound ? check on youtube for similar F4R engines running to compare faults such as dephaser pulley issues (sounds like a bag of bolts rattling around)
have you tried changing the pencil coils around(get a spare working one)

Renault clio 2003 brake drum issue???

We have a Renault Clio that was in desperate need of a rear wheel bearing replacement on both sides...the near side rear was changed with no issues but the offside has left us baffled...the bearing has been changed twice to rule out a faulty bearing but as soon as it is bolted up the wheel will not turn!?!! We have swapped the drum of the nearside and that works fine on the nearside but after fitting a new drum the wheel will still not turn...please help as we are stumped...cheers

Renault Scenic 02 1.6

Hi guys another muddle of a problem to solve...

Ive had a search around on the site but to no avail so here is the predicament...

Car went down road, spluttered a few times then cut out. Car turns but does not fire..

So we tried changing various relays, Fuses, changed Several sensors (eg. temp sensor) we cleaned off a slightly dirty crank shaft sensor, and finally just changed to another Fuel Pump as the other one wasnt sounding too special.
Done research into changing the fuel filter but seems that this is built into the Pump.

So now we turn key again and same happens...
Im completely out of ideas as to what this can be now any ideas?

Megan Locking System

Hi All

I have been having problems with my car running rough for quite a while now - I was told by an electrics person was a short 'SOMEWHERE" and would need all day at costs to find and fix -

So I have been looking at connections etc to see if could find it - Today I found a loose connection from fuse box to main frame- I tightened this and yeah ran better - Went for a drive and seems better - however stopped at a BnQ and returning to car won't start - dead jim - Disconnected battery - checked the loss connection - reconnected battery and on my way again Phew but not as smoothly - The only thing I did was push the door locking button on drivers side -

I am now thinking this is the SHORT - does any one know if the push buttons can be disconnected - and if the auto locking on key fob will still work ??

on closing the car back at home - locking system clicking on and off

Thanks

Hi

Just purchased a 2001 Renault Scenic RX4.

Yes I know it is 14 years old, but it was well kept well, with every faulty part replaced.

I started driving it and I must say I am happy with it.

Its my everyday ride for work... so I was not looking for a new car.

I am happy with all the options it has and it has a lot of space!!

I would be happy to hear any advice... Positive please

Stop light and battery light on

Stop light and battery light on

Morning people. I'm new to the forum so hi to everyone and hopefully someone can help me.
I was driving my 2008 traffic yesterday when the stop light and battery light came on. I'm assuming it's alternator that's packed in because the battery is now flat. I had to use the lights when this happened because it was dark so I think that's how it's flat.
Basically I'm just wondering if there is anything I should check before I go and buy an alternator.
By This I mean is there any fuses or wires to check or anything else before
.
.
Thanks in advance for any help. John.

Renualt master dual clutch

Renualt master dual clutch

Hey guys , I drive a Renault master MWB 60plate van I use for my plumbing business, I've always had masters and last year I purchased a 60 plate on the hope I would have to keep spending like my old one,
Well , the fly wheel started giving slight movement recently and my mechanic told me I'd need to do clutch aswell, so it will be getting done in the next week or so, but last week I finished servicing a customers boiler , jumped into the van, turned the key and nothing , it was left over night as new the customer well and next day I put it in gear gave it a little rock and voila first time, it's been great until tonight , same again just the clicking sound of the relay near the fuse board, all the sat nav and lights work so reckon it's the starter but is there anything I can try or do, I'm not that great at engines but I'm happy to have a go , does the 60 plate starter still use brushes and is it easy enough to remove and check ?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ,,,, From Kris

2003 Scenic 1.9 dci power loss and black smoke

Hello everyone,
Just over the past week I have noticed that when I pull away I have a lot of black smoke and it seems to lack a bit of power, today I was going up a hill which I have been up before the car really started to struggle and i ended up in 2nd gear and black smoke, once I got on flat road the car picked up (I have been up this hill before in 4th gear with no problems) also I don't have any warning lights coming on. Also every now and then when I go to start the car (usually starts straight away) it doesn't and can take up to 10 turns of the engine to fire up.

any ideas at to what it could be

Lights diming, battery?

I wouldn't expect noticeable dimming on lights.
Those days went with dynamos (when choice could be heater fan or lights but not both)

You really need to check alternator output. Should be around 14v when engine running, maybe a touch lower on tickover. Shouldn't be much above even when revving.

Check with multimeter on DC volts across battery terminals.

If suspicious of battery, a load test is best.

Click on wiper intermittent

When using the wipers on intermittant there is a click sound (sounds like a relay) at the start and finish of the wiper stoke. I have replaced the only relay I could find in the fusebox area, which is where the sound is coming from. I have looked under the footwell by the fuse box and the noise seems to come from the seat side, not bulkhead side, of the fusebox. Has anyone had this before?

Clio 2010 front wipers

Hi all,
Been reading some posts on here regarding my problems but not found nothing like mine.
Driving home one day the wipers stated playing up, they went slow then stopped, and that was it, got home and my dad stopped it down to look at the wiper motor, all looked fine and not swimming in water like some I read about, all fuses were good to, he tried the wipers and they worked, put it all back together and wiper arms back on and they moved a inch and stopped, so he took it apart again, and got them going again, but as soon as the wipers go onto the screen it stops, not enough power getting to them, so thought it must be the motor, so bought new motor, dad fitted it, and hey presto it's working fully again, that lasted one day, as the next day it stopped again, the new motor was doing the same as the old one, works with wipers taken off but not when one, I took it into Renault today and they called saying it needs a new motor and wires need sorting as they got them working when they wiggled the wires on the motor, they said they will fix it for over £400, I told them not to and when I picked it up and drove home they were working again ?.
I am worried it will go again and if its raining I won't be able to do anything.
Really hoping one of you guys have heard of this before and can advise me on the cure.

Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Clio MkII - Wishy Washy Steering/Handling

My MkII Dynamique has a bit vague and ponderous steering. Only really noticeable when cornering and feels like it'll understeer at any opportunity.

My immediate hunch was either tracking was out (wheel is misaligned slightly and may be due to recent change of out of ball joint by previous owner) or rear struts were knackered (it had a feeling of hunkering down in corners at the rear end).

I changed the shocks on rear - rhs wasn't in good shape. It's improved handling, but not by that much.

Next stage would be to take it to Kwik Fix or somewhere more reputable, and get the alignment checked.

But any further thoughts? Could it be steering rack, power steering, front torsion bar?

Have a problem on my 05 Laguna estate. When I exit the car the passenger door and the rear doors lock automatically. I also dont get a warning sound if light are left on. (Might be a separate issue)
Key fob will not lock the car.
But key fob works fine to unlock all doors

2001 Scenic RX4 1.9 DCI small oil leak

Hi

I just purchased a 2001 Scenic RX4 1.9 DCI.

The car is in great condition, lots of new parts and well maintained.

I noticed after a turn the engine off, two or three drips of oil occur.

I cleaned the sump and let the car sit a entire night, and there was no more signs of dripping.

Could there be a pipe, seal or something that is a normal issue for a car this old?

Oil level is perfect, car runs great.

As well stupid question.... where is the turbo locate? if it has one?

I don`t now if previous owner of my Grand Scenic 3 disabled the chimes but they don`t work. Could it be it`s disabled?

Hi all.

I have a 2010 Modus with the standard dash display (large central speedo and rev counter). I would like to swap it for the alternative dash display (smaller speedo and rev counte rover to the left). Looking at the layout of the rear of the display the type and position of the wiring connector is identical. Am I right in assuming that it is just simply a plug-and-play job?

Thanks in advance

Hi from merseyside :)

Hi from sunny Lincolnshire

Thumbs upHi from sunny Lincolnshire

My Clio Prima RL is going to be twenty years old on the 29th Feb 2016. This year is a leap year too!
We have owned the Clio since 1st Feb 2001. First my wife owned it, then my youngest son and now me! Since owning it I have replaced the top and bottom ball joints, replaced the nearside front wheel bearing, three exhausts, two batteries, timing belt and water pump and many little things too numerous to mention.I find the little Clio a very easy car to work on. Servicing is a doddle. No rust except for a bit of bubbling atop the rear wheel arch which is being sorted in the spring. The Clio is a joy to drive no power steering or ABS just like when I passed my test fifty years ago.
I have had my eye on an electric ZOE I am going to book a test drive this spring. Whatever happens Clio wont be traded in. Regards to you all. PrimaClio.

Hi from sunny Lincolnshire

fusebox/uch????

i have a renault clio 1500dci 2007 82,000 on the clock.
I had problems with indicators, headlights and wipers about 6 weeks ago but that got fixed, the guy said it was the stalk. This current problem started a couple of weeks ago when the battery went flat. We jump started the car and after a few days it again went flat. There was a clicking noise coming from under the bonnet. I was told it was to do with the emissions and the guy disconnect something until he could take a look at it. My car seemed to work fine with this disconnected. When the guy looked st my car he said there was nothing wrong with it and connected it back up. The following day my car was dead again.

2 days ago I got a mobile diagnostic guy to look at my car and lots of strange things began to happen. Immobiliser turning on and off and the strangest thing was when i took my key out of the ignition thecar kept going.

The guy thought it could be the relays. So we left it at that for him to return.

As it stands now I've been told that it could be the fuse box or the UCH. He's admitted that he hasn't come across this problem before and I wondered if anyone could advise me accordingley please, as I don't know what to do.
Thankyou in advance

Renault megane 1.9 dci 130 smoke inside the car

Hello I had a similar type of problem but mine was a burning my eyes type of smoke. I couldn't see any smoke but my eyes would sting after a while. It turned out to be the pollen filter, when I took it out it was badly clogged up, replaced it and no more stinging eyes maybe check this too. If the smoke coming from the previous problem you had was being sucked in the car it may have clogged up the filter. Hope this helps.

Clio goes into limp mode like state

Hi all first post on here so forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, I have checked but couldn't find it.

I have a clio 1.2 16v extreme Reg **05*** and it has recently developed this "EXTREME"ly annoying habit.

The car will drive fine as long as I keep the revs below 3500 - 4000 however if I want to overtake anything and put my foot down the car seems to lose all power the engine management light comes on I cant accelerate over 30mph until I stop and turn the car off and back on.

Also when this happens and I stop the car revs itself at around 3000rpm

Ive checked and cleaned the throttle body and all seems to be okay as does the loom so im stumped as to whats causing this!!

Any help is much appreciated

Renault Megan Scenic 2001 1.4

Hi,

I've owned this car nearly 2 years now it has 163k on the clock lovely car however, on a morning when I start the car up it ticks over fine however as soon as I pull away and press the accelerator it starts loosing power and stalls.

When I take my foot off its perfectly fine. This only happens on a morning if I use the car on an afternoon its perfectly fine.

What could it be? Its starting to become very annoying.

I have a code reader and although the engine light doesn't come on it has a code on for the 02 sensor could that cause the problem I'm experiencing?

If so then why does it occur only on a morning as I go to work at around 3:30 am when I finish work between 9-11am it runs fine

Thanks

Chris

Laguna in 1.9 Dci

I've just put my dad's car back on the road after it has not been used for 2 years. I've changed the oil and I'm going to change the brake fluid. What else should I do, cambelt, coolant?
Also the front and rear passenger footwells are soaked. I'm not sure if there's a leak or if it's just condensation. Judging by how wet they are I would imagine a leak.
Three of the electric windows don't work, both side lights, the key card / central locking, the light for the heater display. I think that's it for now.
Sorry for the long post and thanks if you are still reading.

Clio Mk3 dCi 1.5 only returns 38 MPG!

Hi all,

Recently had my Clio in for a service at my local Renault independent (which ended up costing over £1k as my suspension was rusted away - a total MOT catastrophe let alone unsafe), and before it would get MPG in the mid 40's - which isn't great for a diesel Clio at all but I didn't worry too much, as it was still high ish and usually got about 56 if only driving on motorways. Performance seemed fine and no smoke or anything.
Now, I am averaging 38 MPG which is just pathetic!

I have seen a lot of posts that this could be down to the EGR valve, and read the sticky about the 1.9 dCi engine, but has anyone got any tips/pics for doing this on a 1.5 in a Clio? I've searched the forum but can't find anything detailed like there is for the 1.9.

I'm also getting a diagnostic code reader from eBay which should arrive soon so perhaps that will throw up some codes which might help me claw back some of the ~30MPG I'm owed.

It's not too bad around town as I'm just pretending it's a noisy petrol car lol but hoping I can fix it before my next long motorway run in mid Feb.

Cheers,
Tom

Missing vacuum hose to damper valve, oil, etc

Hi guys,

I wanted to upload images, server encountered some kind of an error. So I created an imgur album. http://ift.tt/1ZUvkMB

Can anyone tell me what the **** has happened to this engine? I searched for k9k 832, and k9k 836 images, but both of those engines are different that the images here.

As you can see, the intercooler pipe has a vacuum hose connecting to a different place (normally it connects with the damper valve). The damper valve on these images is left empty. Also, there's quite some oil there.

Anyone have any ideas please?

Brake line rubbing on CV boot

Brake line rubbing on CV boot

I have a scenic rx4 and i have found that the brake lines actually go under the drive shaft, and the line has been bent ?? And this caused the brake line to rub on the CV boot, eventually wearing through the brake line. I have had the problem fixed but i believe the brake line route is incorrect. My question is should it go under the drive shaft or over the drive shaft?

Exchange DP0 046 to DP2 ???

Hi all! AT first I'm sorry for my English, cause I'm not English - speaking. I'm from cold Russia.: D
At last time I've got some problems with my Automatic Transmission DP0 046 in my car Megane II. There are intensive kicks when the weather is cold, and some time I've got a message on the panel "CHEK GEARBOX".
My car is from 2007, Renault megane II Phaze II Sedan|Berlin, LM1B, K4M813 Engine 1.6L, 16V, DP0 046 Transmission,121 500 km mileage, so I want to Exchange my DP0 046 on DP2, but I don't know which prefix DP2 need to have to be compatible with Engine K4M 813.
I know only DP2 for 2.0L F4R engines, but I need prefix for 1,6 K4M.
Does anybody know something about it?

For moderators: Searching found only oil exchange in DP0. Sorry for my English.

Laguna MK II - 2003 - 1.9 DCi and Wynn's Engine Flush.... Drain the Crackcase?

Hello,

I'm doing an oil change this weekend and have bought a can of Wynn's Engine Flush to go in before dropping the oil

I used a different flushing agent before and it was all good but on the back of the can of Wynn's it says the usual: put it in and idle for 20 minutes... however it also says "While the engine is still warm, drain the crankcase. Change the oil and oil filter"

Where and how would I drain the crackcase?

Do I need to do this?

I don't feel like any more drama with the car but I don't want the Wynn's to go to waste

Anyone else used Wynn's on a Diesel Laguna?

Espace Towing Electrics

Hi Guys,

Apologies if this is a duplicate post, I must have not clicked submit.

I don't have my car yet, so I'm not being lazy and just not wanting to look. :-)

At the weekend I want to fit my tow bar to my 2004 Espace with single 7 pin electrics. The tow bar comes with a generic 7 pin loom plus relay system.

The tow bar manufacturer says, simply attach the input of the relay into the existing lighting loom for the rear rights Scotch clips are provided, this seems like a bit of a bodge.

I know you can get dedicated Espace looms that cost a small fortune. So I would like to know if the Espace comes with a loom spur in the boot area that i can use as my source for the relay and avoid tapping into the rear lights? It must be a common thing to fit a tow loom to this car.

Thanks for any assistance.
Ash
