Clio mk 3 headlight beam

Your headlights need to be adjusted to throw the light at the correct angle and height, this is part of the MOT test so I wouldn't advise you to start adjusting them or you run the risk of the car failing its next MOT and blinding oncoming cars in the mean time!

You could take the car to an MOT station and ask them to check the lights are adjusted correctly.

But before that it would be wise to make sure the bulbs are seated correctly in the headlights (Youtube / Google)

Are the headlight lens's clear or are they starting to look a bit cloudy, if cloudy you can polish them up to make them clear again which will help the situation. (Youtube / Google)

Cheers.

Loss of power when fuel is low - Help!!!!

Hello all,
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find an answer using the search button, even though it looks like there are a few others with similar problems...

The car is a 2007 Renault Grand Scenic 1.6 Dynamique (if that's how you spell it..). And it's the 1.6 Petrol engine.

The problem...
Basically, as the fuel gets low (just above 1/2 a tank), it starts to feel a bit powerless and the engine starts cutting out under power. Starting the engine (both hot and cold) sometimes requires two pushes of the button, and it will sometimes cut out straight after starting unless a dab of throttle is applied it usually settles down after that.

The main issue is the cutting out under power. This gets progressively worse as the fuel gets lower. In the worst cases, it feels as if the speed limiter has kicked in - there's no power whatsoever. The car drives OK with gentle throttle usage, but pulling away from junctions, driving up hills or fast roads all become 'interesting'.

Our local garage had their auto electrician look it over and first thing they found was a faulty dephaser unit, which was replaced. Apart from a fault with the electronic handbrake switch (also replaced), no faults were logged by the ECU.
The reported MPG has also got a fair bit worse.

Our local Renault main dealer also had a good look (Bristol Street Motors in Derby) and couldn't find the root of the fault (the garage was very good - they didn't charge for the diagnostic as they couldn't find the fault!).

Has anyone any suggestions? My thoughts were is there something amiss with the fuel pump, but I can't find much info on the location of fuses/fuel pump relay/etc.
I keep seeing references to the crank sensor, but as it gets worse as the fuel gets low, it seemed a very long shot.

Any thoughts?

Laguna 2 door latch not engaging

UnhappyLaguna 2 door latch not engaging

My drivers door will only close after many attempts at banging it shut, from inside or outside. The door keep is solid and immovable, the catch mechanism is free and will easily latch on to a screwdriver and open again with the handle. I live next door to a repair garage (who know my car well!) and they took a look at it today, but said they got the same results as me and are mystified. The mechanism isn't worn, the spring is strong, the door is in the correct alignment, it latches on to a bar easily, BUT it just won't latch when closed. They doubted that a new lock mechanism would act any differently. (He did suggest welding it shut but I declined} I found a thread from 2013 where someone had the same symptoms but there was no reply. Please, can anyone make any suggestions or know what the problem is??

Yet more feedback about our special scheme for car club/forum members:

"I've been with XXXXXX XXXX for a few years now but decided to give Chris Knott a try this year. With exactly the same policy and company I was previously with they were immediately 10% cheaper on a £450 policy. I rang my broker to cancel my renewal and got the usual "we'll try and get a better price" and knocked a further £60 off the same policy... I decided I was still going to change, so rang back to Chris Knott to sort out. When I spoke to them again to say go ahead they had another look and came up with an even better quote, different company but same, if not better, specifications and saved me another £70. So overall I've saved myself £100 on my renewal quote, that's a great saving on the original £450. What more can you say !!! Well done." stokey1964, VWAudiForum

My Dog

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. He has his food prepared for him. He can eat whenever he wants.

His meals are provided at no cost to him.

He visits the Doctor once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise.

For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.

He lives in a nice neighbourhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.

He makes no contribution to the running or maintenance of the house.

If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.

He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep. He receives these accommodations absolutely free.

He is living like a King, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.

All of his costs are picked up by others who go out, work hard, and earn a living every day.

I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head.

Mk1 Megane -IR key reprogramming & radio code input

So my renault megane Mk1 has a second IR key which I had to put new batteries in. It doesn't operate the locks or immobilizer on the car though.
I've read up on here and threads seem to say to hold the button on the dash to lock the car with the ignition on and the immobilizer light should start flashing on the dash to show the car code I should then be able to sync up the key.... But it doesn't do anything, however long I hold that button on the dash!

Can anyone help me with this?

My second problem is the original radio is in the car but that has also lost its code. I have obtained the code for the radio but it won't let me enter any numbers when I turn the radio on? It just flashes that first zero on the dash display. Can anyone help me explain why I can't enter the numbers or is the radio knackered?

Thanks,
Rob

Laguna 2 alarm

After a battery charge from VERY flat, the alarm goes off when I put the card in but the car starts, obviously I can't drive around with siren and hazards. It also goes off when I open the bonnet, stops if I press down the bonnet switch but restarts when I let it go.
The fault has occurred before but usually goes away, not this time. I've tried the usual UCH fuse removal and battery disconnection, no joy.
Any clues? TIA.

Problems starting Clio MKIII 1.6 with video, electrics problem?

Hi Mike H025. I did disconnect the battery and removed it while trying (and failing) to find the TDC sensor.. so that is why the time on the clock is off.

I think the last journey it did was 10 miles each way, so not short-short, but semi short!?

I'll definitely try charging it though. Will hopefully be able to try tomorrow.. will post back. Thanks again.

Problems starting Clio MKIII 1.6 with video, electrics problem?

Megane 2005 Won't start

Not sure what you are asking

can they actually get into the system to diagnose it and its reporting no errors ,if so go for crank shaft sensor ,
Immobilizer fault would show up in the U C H (B S I/B C M)
Again depending what diagnostic machine they are using, some really wont read renault systems and report no errors,
When you say it wont turn over at times ,do you mean it wont crank, get them to test the brake and clutch switch wiring ,the clutch switch is on the clutch pedal bracket ,the brake switch is in the passenger side of the car below the glove box ,this is not easy to see but it is in that area ,these can be tested without removing with Renault diagnostic machines, dont know if other diagnostic machines can ,
Fuel pump wont work if crank signal is not present,
Again this should be able to be tested on live data even on cranking and it should show between 200 to 250 rpm (x 4 would equal engine running)this would show a crank signal and not needed to be checked by the exchange method (removing and replacing) this needs to be tried while starting
Have they tried easy start,to prove the engine is in running order and not in itself an issue
sorry might seem a long post but if you ask them the question and they can not give you an answer at least you will have some info to point them to where to look
But please remember to be very diplomatic how you put it over because us smart **** mechanics think we know everything when it comes to diagnostics (YEAH RIGHT),but we dont and could never do else we wouldnt need a computer and we could plug our fingers into the obd port ,,good luck with it ,

Espace IV 2,2 dci, no power in 1 gear and loose power in uphill on higway

Hi

I am from Norway. Have a 2004 Espace (IV) 2,2 DCi (150 hp.
Have been searhing myself and in different workshops since June but still no solution so hopefully someone on the forum has a solution?

Fault codes on EGR and sensor for camshaft, these have been changed also diesel and air filter changed. No fault codes anymore. One garage (Renault) think it is a problem with diesel supply (air in system) another think it is the clutch (worn).

If the car is in 1 gear on flat ground it "jumps" but it is normally no problem to go ahead. If the car is in uphill (uphill start) then the engine dies (no power). The strange thing is that if I try the same uphill in reverse it is no problem with the car.
When driving on the highway the car is not so strong in uphills and when giving power the car is "jerky"; sometimes I must change to one lower gear.

The big problem is now that the car is useless, if I have a stop in uphill I cannot get loose again.

Hope for some good answers.

Best regards
Lars from Norway

Megane I - Heater Blower Fan

I've just bought a Renault Megane Mk1 today for little cash. I was made aware of all the problems when buying and went ahead.
One of the problems is that the heater fan doesn't work within the car....I thought this would be an easy solution and watched some videos on youtube etc but they all seemed to relate to the Mk2 Megane.

I think I've now discovered that the Mk1 fan is beneath the scuttle panel near the windscreen wipers?

How the HELL do I get it out of there??

Could there be any other places I should check first to see if they are the solution? (checked the fuse, wasn't that)

A young man called Chris from London wanted to buy a Christmas present for his new girlfriend. They hadn't been seeing each other for very long and she lived in Scotland. Chris consulted with his sister and decided, after careful consideration, that a pair of good quality gloves would strike the right note... not too romantic and not too personal. Off he went with his sister to Harrods and they selected a dainty pair of fur lined quality leather gloves. His sister bought a pa...ir of sexy knickers for herself at the same time. Harrods had a free gift wrap offer but the assistant mixed up the two items, the sister got the gloves and Chris unknowingly got the knickers. Good old Chris sent off his gift wrapped present in a parcel with the following letter. Dear Maggie, I chose these because I've noticed that you are not wearing any when we go out in the evenings. If it had not been for my sister I would have chosen the long ones with buttons, but she wears shorter ones (which are easier to remove). These are a very delicate shade, but the lady I bought them from showed me the pair she had been wearing for the past three weeks and I hardly noticed any marks. I had her try yours on for me and she looked really smart in them even though they were a little bit tight on her. She also said that they rub against her ring which helps keep it clean. In fact she hasn't needed to wash it since she began wearing them. I wish I was there to put them on for you the first time, as no doubt many other hands will touch them before I have a chance to see you again. When you take them off remember to blow into them a little bit because they will be naturally a little damp from wearing. Just imagine how many times my lips will kiss them during the coming year. I hope you will wear them for me on our next date. All my love, Chris P.S. My mum tells me that the latest style is to wear them folded down with a little bit of fur showing.

Renault Scenic II Rear wiper swing arm adjustment

Hello group ...

I am new to all of this, and hopefully someone will have the answer I need.

On our Scenic II, the rear wiper swing arm needs to be adjusted as it drops too low when in its resting position, and is damaging the blade and the body work.

I know that the best option is to remove the arm from the spindle and make the necessary adjustment, however I have found it impossible to access the spindle.

Looking forward to some bright sparks.

Max load question in boot - Megane Coupe 3

Hi all,

Need to move some Kitchen Floor tiles in my Coupe and now that they're in the car I'm wondering if I'm over the limit. I've the back-seat down and have 17 boxes of tiles and 4 bags of grout in the back of the car.

Altogether I've about 480 kg and the car is obviously noticeably lower at the back! I'm worried about making an hour and a half run with them if I'm way over the limit. Based on the info from the door card below about the rear axle allowing 920 kg..... am i OK with this?

If i am OK, should i be upping the tyre pressure?

The door card says

1. Max Authorized Load - 1728kg

2. GTW (Gross train weight: vehicle
fully loaded, with trailer) - 3028kg

3. MPAW (Maximim Permissible
Weight) for front axle 990kg

4. MPAW on rear axle. 920kg

thanks

OBD Reader - Parking sensors

OK, Thanks. Thought £7 was too good to be true!

My Parking sensor fault:
Its on a 2006 Automatic G/Box Scenic with Renault factory fitted front and rear parking sensors.
When working, it works fine for a while. Then it starts giving a random beep every now and again (the system is always on, to warn of pedestrians / cyclists etc being too close). Then when I'm getting really peeved with the random beeps, the system seems to go into a fault mode, where on starting the car (whether in park or not) The rear speakers give a 3 second beep, and the parking sensor system no longer functions at all.
If I disconnect the battery, the system appears to re-set, but I have to reprogram the radio code and re-set the electric windows etc. I dont really want to pay big wads of cash to get Renault to tell me whats wrong. I've tried listening to the sensors for clicking, but it only works with the engine running, so that's a little tricky.

Dunno what to look for to find the source of the fault.

His mother tells him no breakfast until he does his chores. Well, he's a little ****ed, so he goes to feed the chickens, and he kicks a chicken. He goes to feed the cows, and he kicks a cow. He goes to feed the pigs, and he kicks a pig. He goes back in for breakfast and his mother gives him a bowl of dry cereal."How come I don't get any eggs and bacon? Why don't I have any milk in my cereal?" he asks. "Well," his mother says, "I saw you kick a chicken, so you don't get any eggs for a week. I saw you kick the pig, so you don't get any bacon for a week either. I also saw you kick the cow, so for a week you aren't getting any milk."

Just then, his father comes down for breakfast and kicks the cat halfway across the kitchen. The little boy looks up at his mother with a smile, and says:
"Are you going to tell him, or should I?"

Espace 2004 Bonnet stuck

Hi I am hoping someone can help,
We have just refitted an alternator as it ceased to work, after we installed the refurbished original one we had to put some charge in the battery as it was drained, we tyres starting the car but didn't start straight away so we boosted the charger but when I inserted the key card no lights came on the dashboard so we are thinking we may have blown a fuse, we checked all fuses known to us and all are ok so we are stuck on this one now.
As it started to rain we closed the bonnet but now we cannot get it open again if you can help with any of these issues we would really appriciate it.
Thanks

So I have an mk3 megane on a 10 plate 1.6 I music and if I put the card in and press start it simply clicks and there is no response from the engine.

I lifted the bonnet to see if there were any signs or some hope. When I have the card in the engine sounds like an electronic buzzing.

I have no clue, it's not the battery as lights work but the radio does not. Anyone got any ideas !

Swap Delphi to a Bosch pump Clio 3

Unless you intend to keep the motor over 100K I wouldn't bother.
Delphi pumps had horrendous problems when they first came out but times have moved on.
Plenty running with 100K on.
If you are looking at increasing the odds of the pump keeping going....
Fuel additives for additional lube
Two stroke as an additive
Stick a new Delphi pump on before the old one dies.

Filter in the return lines would need to be fine and would not protect the injectors should the pump self destruct.

No idea if a Bosch would swap in without issues.

Mk3 megane 1.6 i music, no power!

Well, yesterday I cleaned out my baby top to bottom, filled her back to the brim only to go out this morning and find it won't start.

Power to dash but not the radio. Light all work as does alarm

When I place my keycard in, then press start there is simply a small click near the fusebox everytime I press start.

I opend up the bonnet as I'd wiped it all over the day before to get it all shiney and there is also a humming/buzzing noise coming from what sounds to be from the back centre of the engine bay. The only thing is different is the fact it got a full tank of Super unleaded petrol.

Any ideas what could be wrong ?

Diet

Yesterday I was at my local Tesco store buying a large bag of Winalot dog food for my loyal pet and was in the checkout queue when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had an elephant? So, since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Winalot Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn’t, because I ended up in hospital last time, but I'd lost 2 stone before I woke up in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pockets with Winalot nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in queue was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked me if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me I told her no, I stepped off the kerb to sniff an Irish Setter's **** and a car hit me.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. I'm now banned from Pick N Pay

Charming xmas story

A Charming festive story......

Long ago and far away, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip, but there were problems everywhere.

Four of his elves got sick and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the sick elves.
Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then Mrs Claus told Santa that her mum was going to come and visit.
This stressed Santa even more.
When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More stress.
Then he began to load his sleigh, when one of the boards cracked and the toy bag fell to the floor and scattered the toys.
Totally frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of tea and a shot of sherry. When he went to the cupboard, he found the elves had drunk all his booze and there was nothing to drink.
In his frustration, he dropped his tea pot and it shattered into a million pieces and all over the kitchen floor. He got his broom to sweep all the bits up only to find that the mice had eaten the straw off the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cursed on his way to the door.
He opened the door to see a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said: "Isn't it a lovely day today Santa? I brought you a lovely Xmas tree. Where shall I stick it?" And that, my friends, is how the little angel came to be on top of the Christmas tree

Megane rear fog light issue!!

air compressor lost its pressure simple fix

air compressor lost its pressure then this could be your problem solved

first remove the main plastic cover
remove the air filter if need be just unscrews on most
next disconnect the out let feed pipe

put a mark you can see for alignment this is so you dont put it all back in reverse each section you uncover make a mark before you remove
next undo the 4 bolts holding on the head do not remove then gently lift the head

once the head is off and you mark any gaskets before you remove them its easy to get them back to front

you will come to this as you can see part of the valve has snapped but if its not it may need a good clean stopping the valve from closing correctly normally cause by a broken filter

all i did was to buy a feeler gauge blade set took out a .011 blade you can try with the next lower or higher cut the blade to size insert and refit any gaskets you have removed then gently lower the head with bolts in place this helps keep all the gaskets in line
if you have kept everything in line you should be ready to go my first attempt was not perfect so i did it again i did a quick test before i refitted the cover
the last picture if you want to go further to clean the piston remove that gasket take the piston to its lower point smear a tiny amount of grease around the bore raise the piston to the top clean then lower the piston and any muck that fell down the pistons sides will be stuck to the grease
thats it as simple as that

Scenic 2000 Automatic Gear Stick Stuck

Hello,

Last night, when I arrived back home, I put the car into Park from Drive, but as I did so, the gear stick moved without any resistance at all and I instantly realised that something was wrong. It then seemed to get stuck in the "2" gear and I then couldn't move the stick at all. The car then wouldn't start up again and the brake pedal couldn't be pressed down.

I had a quick look on here and saw that there is a manual button release under the gear stick cover, which I pressed this morning. This allowed me to get the car back into Park. I've since played around with it and the car now "seems" to be working ok again.

Does anyone know what cause this problem? It's never happened before. I was wondering if I hadn't properly stopped before putting it into Park maybe?

Retro fit Bluetooth Clio Tom Tom mk3

Good afternoon, I just purchased a 2011 Clio dynmique 1.2 16v Tom Tom. I love it but it really annoys me that it doesn't have BT or hands free calling.

It is fitted with the classic radio which looks a bit out of place because it doesn't match the gloss back trim. I think maybe the previous owner switched the head units before selling it on.

Any way I'm hoping a kind soul could answer a few questions for me.

1. Would it be enough to purchase a Renault head unit with integrated BT? I have seen them on ebay for £100

2. Is there a way of checking if my car was fitted with BT as standard or a factory option?

3. Looking at the 2012 brochure it sais BT was standard in this model. Was it standard in the 2011 range?

I'm hoping just buying a new head unit is enough. But then again these things always end up more complicated than they have to be.

Many thanks

Nods

Grand Scenic rear wiper problem

Grand Scenic rear wiper problem

I have a 2004 Renault Grand Scenic which has an intermittent problem with the rear wiper. It generally works when it is dry (not always) but after it has rained for short while it stops working which obviously is no use. Prior to this Scenic I owned another one which had the same problem is it a simple solution such as rain proofing the electrics?
The electric windows on the rear doors also do not work, what is it with Renaults they seem to be awash with electrical problems. I must be a glutton as

Hello and a question on airbags

I'm normally found on the Bimmer forums tending to my 15 year old 3 series, but today it's a problem with my girlfriend's 3 year old Clio!

The car is full of water lying underneath the carpets, I've just unblocked the scuttles and they drained like a bathtub, so I'm reasonably confident that was the culprit. Now to dry it out I was planning to lift the carpet and drain as much water as I could.

Since there are airbags etc in the seats, is it just a case of disconnecting the battery before removing them? Or is there more that needs to be done to avoid getting error codes?

I took a few photos of the process as I went as I couldn't find any online:

You'll need a 16mm socket or spanner, a pair of waterpump pliers and a screwdriver.

Pull the rubber trim off and remove the pins from either side.

The pins sit inside a plug, pull the top up and then you can remove the whole thing.

Pull the cover off the wiper nut and back it off a couple of turns.

Using waterpump pliers, squeeze the wiper nut up against the nut. These came off fairly easily so this might not have been necessary but on an older car they can be a nightmare.

With both wipers removed and the cover off there was a big pool of water on each side. It's my understanding that if the scuttles are this badly blocked the area wells up and the water starts to flow in through the vents.

Stick a screwdriver down the drain and it should clear with a satisfying rush of water!

And again on the other side, both were completely blocked but took no effort to clear.

Reassemble in reverse order, making sure to align the wiper blades, which should go back onto the splines.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I think I'm quite limited with my zero post count!

Starting & Engine failure hazard

A few days ago the injectors warning light appeared and today the engine failure hazard warning appeared and now it is in limp mode until the garage look at it tomorrow as it is under warranty.
Previously / since it was purchased there has been a problem with it starting especially when its cold. After been taken to the garage for the 3rd time and saying the cant find anything wrong a Master Tech? came to look at the fault. They replaced the battery and glow plugs I think. It has been ok since then but still not starting as you would expect and now the weather is cold again the starting is getting worse.
I've had the car 8 month it is under a 2 year warranty. Is it possible to reject the car after this amount of time or get a replacement, seems I have had constant problems.

Thank you for any advice.

Heater fan sticking

Heater fan sticking

My clio mk 3 heater fan is sticking. I have removed the glove compartment to get access to the fan resistor, when I wiggle the wires going into it nothing happens, removed the connectors had a look doesn't seem to be anything melted but when I tap the fan casing behind the resistor with a screwdriver the fan works when I switch the ignition off then on again sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't so I just tap the casing and it comes on. Any ideas why it's not working all the time?
Does this mean the fan is ok and it's some of the connectors causing the problem.

So much for doing away with Tax Discs

Oh dear another government financial blunder.

According to figures the number of untaxed vehicles has doubled since the need to display a tax disc was abolished. The financial loss now amounts to around £80 million. The predicted saving of £10 million hasn't really materialised. In my opinion all the more reason to abolish it all together and apply the revenue required to the fuel duty.

Clio Alize 1.4 16v os drive shaft

Hi. I've read a number of posts on drive shaft replacement ( it looks fairly straightforward) but none that I have seen have answered my question.

When removing the drivers side drive shaft will the gearbox oil drain out. I thought I saw somewhere that the male splined bit was was part of the gearbox rather than the shaft. Shaft has female spline?

Not sure if that makes sense..

Up shot will I definitely need oil? If so how much?
