John Deere B carb work

MyTractorForum.com - The Friendliest Tractor Forum and Best Place for Tractor Information
John Deere B carb work
Our 1945 John Deere B hand start was getting tough to start. A couple of days ago I got dad to jump on the B while I towed with another tractor. Had to pull it quite a bit to get it going. Once running it acted like a stuck float valve or sunken float. I pulled the carb off today and found the float full of fuel. Since its apart I thought I should clean it up and paint it. I'll see if the float can be repaired or if I need to order one.

Transmission Shot? New tractor?
Guys,

From what I gather from the good posters on this board, I have a k66 transmission on my G100.

My tractor started to move slower and slower the last two times we cut the lawn. The tractor sounded almost robotic while running. Tough to describe but kind of a whurring sound. It would seem to run well for a bit but when it heated up it got much more sluggish. So we had a local dealer come and pick it up. They called about 4-5 days later saying the transmission was shot.

I have a spot to add transmission oil at the rear of the tractor. I can’t see a fluid level. There is a spot to see but with the age of the tractor and weathered plastic it’s tough to tell even while shaking the tractor side to side. I got the tractor thrown in with my house when I bought it so I don’t know about maintenance in the past. What are the symptoms of needing more transmission oil?

I forget the actual number but I was quoted about mid $2000ish for a transmission. He said he’d put one in, but it’s probably worth more than my machine. Is this a serviceable transmission? I know this is tough to estimate on a message board but can this be fixed for less? My tractor is about 15 years old and my deck is on it’s last legs so large expenses at this point just don’t make a lot of sense.

I think the dealer was shooting me straight but I don’t have enough knowledge to know if they aren’t. They offered to dispose of the tractor but they tell me there is really no value to it. I figured they’d at least use the tractor for parts (25hp Kohler) but that’s not the story I’m getting.

Any thoughts? We’re looking at an x590 to replace this but would feel better knowing a replacement makes the most sense. :)

Thanks!
Yanmar engine in a 425?
Has anyone replaced a 425 engine (the liquid cooled Kawasaki) with the Yanmar diesel engine in the 455? Can it be done? Anybody have experience doing it. I also saw online a JD 425 with a Honda motor. Where can you buy the Honda motor. I probably need to replace the 425 engine and needs some advice? Sincere thanks.
New Guy
Hello. I am new to owning big tractors. I have owned the grass cutting mower that some call a "tractor" but I know own a regular size tractor. About me - I am 50 years old, grandfather of 6, self-employed (I am a Audio/Video sub contractor in Ga). I have mechanical knowledge as far as cars and trucks so any mechanical work is a no brainer, or should be:tango_face_wink:. My tractor is a Ford tractor but I have been unable to find out year, model or anything about it. The hood has the Ford 3000 on each side but what numbers i have do not correspond to any numbers i have found online, (i have either to many characters or not enough :00000060::00000060::00000060::00000060:). Really hoping as soon as i can post and ask questions somebody will be able to help). Thanks fun advance for all or any help that i can get or receive.
Help Identifying Disk Plow

Mahindra tractor over heating, Please Help
I have a 2014 Mahindra 6110 with 800 hours on it, that has been over heating every time I cut my grass with my 12 ft. Rhino bush hog. This problem started in the first of July this year when the plastic fan and belt broke for no reason. Right after my dealer replaced the fan and belt I started getting a Squealing sound coming from my AC compressor because the compressor was locking up. If I turned the AC on and off 3 or 4 times the Squealing sound stopped and the AC would work, BUT my tractor would over heat within 30 minutes of grass cutting with the AC on. I always ran my Tractor in Medium and the gear in number 1. I have run my tractor for the past 4 years like this with out it ever over heating. My Dealer told me to run my tractor in Low and number 1 gear till they figure out what is going on with my tractor and its over heating problem. I did as my dealer suggested and ran my tractor in Low and 1, and now it took 40 minutes this time for my tractor over heat again. I found if I run my tractor in neutral at 1700 rpm and with the pto shut off and the ac shut off that I can get the Temperature down from hot to 1/2 in 4 or 5 minutes and I can continue to cut my grass for another 10 minutes before the tractor over heats again. Now out of Frustration I tried something new. I got my tractor temperature back down to 1/2 now, and when I turned the ac on the temp immediately when to 3/4 before I shut the ac off, I did this 4 times and each time it did the same thing, it immediately when from the 1/2 to 3/4 before I would shut the ac off, because if I didn’t shut the AC off, it go up into the hot. This all happened while my tractor was sitting in neutral. So I thought ok lets try running the tractor with the ac off. I put the tractor back in medium and number 1 in the gears, and I had to open all the windows like I have had to do many times before, but with the ac off I was able to completely cut all 6 acres of grass around my house with the temperature now just below 1/2 and no over heating. I am Sorry for the long post, but I believe my AC compressor is BAD AGAIN? If this AC compressor is bad and this is what is causing my over heating problem, This will make the THIRD AC COMPRESSOR in 4 years that had to be replaced. If any of you think my AC compressor is bad, My Question to you Is this NORMAL for Mahindra tractors to burn up the AC compressors? A new AC compressor is around $700.00 to 800.00 for the compressor alone, not counting labor to put it on. Please Help me, Is this NORMAL for Mahindra tractors to burn up the AC compressors in such a short time? I Thank you all for any help.

Saw this in a gift shop today. My wife got a good laugh (at my expense)...

Condensation? inside LCD - thoughts?
Every time I use the X370, the LCD screen gets what appears to be condensation inside underneath the display.

I'm not overly concerned, but I don't consider it normal. I have not contacted the John Deere shop. Any thoughts? Is this something that should be looked at?
Anyone know Mossburg 500's?? Need info.
OK, so I just got a old Mosburg 500 20ga shotgun. Im assuming its pre 68 because I dont see any serl numbers, and just the time line of its use..[it was my dads] When did they start making these? I dont see any model numbers at all on it, and really other then on the back of the pad not even a Mosburg stamp anywhere. Its clearly a 500 by looking at it, but no idea other then that. So, any info? tips, tricks, and way to ID year or anything?? thanks.

GC2300 FEL Controller Leak?
I've got a GC2300 that seems to be leaking hydraulic fluid down from the controller. I noticed a leak onto my boots when I was moving mulch the other day. Seems to be coming from the bottom of the controller box. Anyone have experience with this, or know of a fix? thanks, Bob
engine swap
Decided to swap out the engine in my loader tractor. It was burning a little oil and also leaking some. I put in a P218 that I recently bought for $125. All that was wrong with it was a plug wire.

Jacobsen Victor 18" Scrap Rescue
Saved from the grave. In line to be scrapped, I saw it and was told it didn't run. Took it home and removed the filter canister which was full of a decomposed filter. Gave it a shot of starting fluid and it popped off. Fresh fuel and she fired like a new mower. It's a 1967 model.

Cleaned it up this morning. Everything functions smoothly.

JD318 hydraulic accessories?
In theory, could I get any small hydraulic device and hook it up to a JD318 to power it?
Or is it some JD proprietary system?
Fuel filter location and fuel line routing? (PK 1618)
I'm looking to replace my fuel line on my PK 1618 and wanted to know where the factory placed the fuel filter on the line? Mine has it a short distance from the bottom of the tank, in the space near the PTO and belts. If you are only changing the filter, it is in a very inconvenient spot and not sure that is the original position on mine.

Second, my fuel line comes outside of the choke and throttle cables then back in toward the engine. Is that the factory routing? It looks my dad (previous owner) placed a chunk of larger hose around the fuel line to prevent rubbing on a spot near where the line disappears back into the engine bay; that is definitely not factory.

Thanks!

317 repower and new driveshaft

317 repower and new driveshaft
Picked up this beauty a while ago and finally got it back together. Surprise of surprises the engine was toast. So I had this Kohler sitting around and put it in. Had a wicked vibration. Tracked it down to the driveshaft. Was going to make a new driveshaft but went into Princess Auto and found a $200.00 driveshaft on clearance for $50.00 with a 1 inch round keyed end to fit the engine and after some searching found a package of 5/8 to 1 inch bushings to fit the tranny end. Bob's your Uncle. Drill a hole through the end for the 1/4 roll pin and she is in. Super not much clearance but doesn't seem to touch anything.
Before anyone climbs on the no jackstands at the front I had to take them out to get the legs of my cherry picker in and they are big enough that they are too wide. Only the 2 rear engine mount bolts have to be done up from underneath and I did them when it was back on its wheels.

JD 317 with Excavator Attachment
It took a few weeks to get everything fine tuned, but here is the finished product!

Its first job was to excavate the foundation for work on my DIY egress window. Took less than 2 hours to excavate, add the concrete anchors, and fill/grade in with the bucket. Before I set up this machine, I dug the window well by hand. It took over a week of digging through clay!

Fuel line size for a Kohler 18hp?
I was working on the engine of my 1618 last night and while changing the fuel filter, the fuel lines seemed like they could use some freshening up. The inside diameter appears to be 1/4" but the wall thickness was pretty thin, nowhere close to the 1/4" fuel line on the Cub Cadet I have.

Is the fuel line on the PK something different or is that just an older style of fuel line?

Vermin chewed the fuel line on the Cub Cadet, so if I'm going to be buying a few feet of it, I was going to get enough to do both tractors.

Thanks!

Howdy Y'all From NC!
New, here for advice and to give some at the same time. Horse farm owner, lawn mower fixer, auto mechanic, auto body tech. Barn builder, you name it I probably do it.
Wife and I own and operate a successful non-profit horse and dog rescue. Run a boarding facility offering covered arena horse back riding and 300+acres of trails. I myself built a covered clear span 80x100 arena, with 14ft wings and 16ft office and tack room on the back side. With the eaves she measures 122ft long by 100ft wide. She is massive. Still a work in progress, but almost finished.

Here to offer advice if I can with lawn tractors or big boy tractors. I own a 1987 Ford 445A 7ft industrial bucket, 3pt with all the goodies, wish it had a PTO but can't be picky, great price wonderful machine, factory 48hp engine has been gone through, bored and sleeved to a 60hp. Shuttle shift so the wife can bop around if need be. All my implements are 6ft, massive stuff. The loader is by far one of the most powerful ones I've ever seen.

My zero turn is a 2006 Husqvarna Z4824, engine replaced with a powerful Briggs 24hp v twin, modified electrical for an automobile 12v. She's my baby, gets the job done and is the most reliable machine I've ever had.

2006 John Deere L100, unfortunately she needs a motor, in the process of finding a donor. Father in law purchased brand new, its just about flawless.

I've sold quite a few riders this season,
1994 Toro Wheel Horse 1338hxl 13hp 38in
1996 Murray 13hp 40in
2000 Ariens EZR1742, 20hp 42in
2003 Craftsman 917 16hp 42in
2003 John Deere L110 Automatic 17.5hp 42in

Just picked up a 2004 Craftsman DYT4000, 18.5hp Intek Plus 42in, has clutch problems. I'm hoping to get it running and sweep the engine onto my Deere. But have to figure out how to make it run without the clutch. The plug is messed up and the clutch I believe is engaged and not letting the engine turn over. I'll fart with it some, get it running and clean it up to swap it out.

Any who, I'm Brandon! Got any questions feel free to ask and vice versa I'll keep my eyes peeled on the topics and if I can help I will!
Troy Bilt Self Propelled No Start
My father as a Troy Bilt self propelled mower which uses a Briggs and Stratton engine, Model 125K05.

This engine uses a primer bulb on the side of the air filter assy to force fuel into the carb for start up.
My dad has had trouble starting the mower for the past 2 seasons.
Last year the system would not prime so he used an air hose attached to his compressor to force air into the small hole in the primer bulb. The engine would usually start and then there were no further issues until the following week on the initial startup.

Last week, the compressed air start would not work.
In order to start it, he had to remove the air filter and squirt raw fuel into the carb to get it to start.
He also had to do this on each subsequent restart.

He has pulled the carb off the engine.
He took the carb apart and cleaned it in carb cleaner ( the old gunk 5 gallon pail stuff)!
He purchased a new kit and a new primer bulb.
He has blown out all the passages and reassembled the carb and installed it on the engine.

He can get it started by squirting fuel into the carb but same issue with subsequent restarts.
Using the primer bulb does not appear to work.

Any ideas on what to look for next?

Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide.

JO
Bought non-running 10.5hp mower - had no air filter. Recommended maintenance
Today I purchased a non running swisher rough cut pull behind mower for $380. Craigslist ad said it ran last year but didn't start after Winter and the seller seemed very honest and not the sketchy type.

Got it home and it has spark, fired with starter fluid and died. Briggs 10.5 hp vertical motor. Noticed air box has big crack so air filter was bypassed. I am assuming this is why it no longer runs.

Only had time to look at it for a few minutes today but tomorrow I plan to clean the carb, tape up air box, change oil check fuel is flowing and pumping. I am thinking it will fire right up after these steps.

Is there any other maintenance I should perform to clean out motor and reverse the effects of dirty air running through engine for God knows how long?

Thanks
JD 455 Electrical Issue - Low Voltage/Key Switch Board
Hi guys,

New to posting but have used this board many times to fix issues with my 1999 JD 455.

I'm currently diagnosing an electrical issues that seems to be related to my key switch and board, but could be something else as well.

Tractor ran normal then seemingly out of nowhere when trying to start, dash lights come on, go off, then dead. Turn key off, then back on, nothing, no dash lights, nothing.

Replaced key switch and board with correct module for my later model year, problem solved. After about 4 cuts, same thing, when trying to start, dash lights on as normal, solenoid fires as normal, then at some point before firing up it dies.

Replaced key switch and board again, fires right up. About 4 cuts later...yep, you guessed it, died again...and that's where I stand today.

Now, I did some more digging using my tech manual and found that my battery is good (12.8V) and good power all the way through the key switch board (control/fuse module) to terminals 2 and 6 without the next wiring harness attached (i.e., fuses good, key switch good). But when I connect the power connector harness to the control/fuse module (X1) the voltage across the system drops way down to about 3.8-4.0V then slowly climbs to about 6V after minutes of sitting there. My dash lights glow dim and a bit brighter but obviously not enough voltage to do start the tractor.

Anyway, could this be a short in the wires after the key switch board? A blown board (again?) or what?

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Brian

7'. They just keep getting bigger

7'. They just keep getting bigger
I sold my SCUT a couple weeks ago due to needing an upgrade. I figured might as well go big or go home, so an oxymoron followed me home - a big compact utility tractor, Kubota L4610. 46 engine horsepower, 40 PTO horsepower. Big upgrade from the 18 PTO horsepower the SCUT had.

I had kept the 60" MK Martin Meteor 3pt snowblower I bought for the SCUT, figuring maybe I could use it on the next tractor. Nope... Tractor's a foot wider than the snowblower, which just won't do. Put the 60" blower back up on Craigslist where I found it 4 years back, and it sold within a week for a fuzz more than I paid for it.

I've been looking at 6'-8' blowers, again with the 3pt rear models. I just like not having to choose between a front loader and snowblower I gues, plus the 3pt models are insanely cheap compared to the front mount tractor model specific units. I think I might end up buying a couple of them, and see which one I like best, selling off the others.

This is the first one I got. Picked it up off craigslist last night. It's older, but the chain, bearings, U-joints, gear box, etc all seem OK, so it should run out pretty quiet. It's an 84" McKee Snowlander. I flipped an 80" Ber-Vac last year that I bought for my FIL, but turns out he didn't want it. Maybe I should have held on to it. Oh, well. There's a couple 72" u its around for about the same price, so I might see if I can accomodate those in my budget as well. The 8' units I've been looking at seem to be more for cat 2 3pt equipped tractors.

The big Kubota picked it up off my trailer like it was nothing. It has to weigh close to 1,000 lb. it almost looks small danging from the loader, but keep in mind that bucket is 72" wide and the trailer it's above has a 16' deck. When it's on the ground, with the chute extended, the top is a little above my head. I'm 6'3". It's an absolute beast! Can't wait for some snow!

Cheap 318 engine swap?
I am a broke teenager with access to:
318 (we'll call this one 318a)
Has: air filter with straight sides and round corners (P218?)
Good starter and electric fuel pump
Engine doesn't have enough power to get up hills with mower deck on

318 (We'll call it 318b)
I don't remember which engine it has, it's in storage
Starter is very loud, doesn't usually work first try
Non-electric fuel pump (works great)
Safety features disabled
Engine has plenty of power, does hills well
PTO circuit board died (Grandpa installed a little toggle-switch on the side for the mower deck and snowblower)

I also have:
My grandpa's supervision
My dad's tools (he was a racetruck driver so he has pretty much everything)
Basic engine knowledge

gator 4x4 utility vehicle 620i
Hello, I am working on our Gator 620i. The gator has a centrifugal force clutch which has too much of a delay when you step on the accelerator peddle. So the RPMs are too high, and grabs with a jolt. Is there a way to adjust when the clutch grabs? Do you have to take the clutch out to do so? Has anyone had this problem? What did you do about it? Any information would be grateful.

I think it's a MTD 990
I picked up a new tractor and was told it was a MTD 990 with 16 HP motor. I did some googling and it definitely looks like one. I have found some stickers and serial numbers on the frame. Any chance 1 of you can help me identify it so I an find a manual, parts, etc.?

Allis chalmers Snow blower for B110 in Dallas Texas
For sale or trade,
Allis chalmers Snow blower for B110 mid to late 60's. Turns freely and not to much rust or dings. Not much use for this in Dallas Texas. Got it in trade with other equipment. Would consider a trade for usable 42 or 48 inch mower deck for AC B110 or B112.
I would also be open to discussing letting someone else continue the restoration of the B112 I have which came with Hydrostatic transmission and hydraulic lift. The engine purrs but I still need to reinstall the hydraulic pump and cylinder and get newer rear tires. Paint will be way down the road.
If interested in above I'll send pictures.

Fare Thee Well
It may well be that I'm leaving the Cub Cadet forum, or not checking in as much, since I traded my Cub Cadet 2006 GT2544 for a '84-'86 Murray 39004 garden tractor. Have to say that I've learned so much from the other forum members here and wanted to say "Thank you!!!"

Even after all the help I got here over the years, I just couldn't get the Cub to mow as it would burn up the PTO belt quickly. At $40 a belt, that gets old real quick. So I just used it to pull/push things about the yard. In the early stages of putting a garden in and finding the right sleeve hitch for implements was becoming a bother. Traded the Cub and a non-working Bolens rider for the Murray which came with a sleeve hitch, a plow, a 42 inch mower deck and a disc harrow. Felt it was a quite good deal as I got the Cub & the Bolens for free. Even verbally said "bye" to the Cub as it was trailered off to a new home.
My 7227 woes
I've about given up troubleshooting this mower. I continue to have running problems with it where it does not want to speed up and stays on low rpm.
Here's a list of the things i've check thus far
compression test (100psi)
3 x new known working carbs
3 x new coils and checked gap each time
new crank seals
2 x new governor setups.
2 x new flywheels
cleaned muffler/ports
2 x new gapped spark plugs
Fresh gas and checked fuel flow to carb.

I can't figure this thing out. it will not get out of low idle/sputtering mode and if i let it sit, it will run that way forever. Priming does nothing

I'm about to give up and tear the whole mower apart and just use as parts.

Any last idea's before I throw in the towel on this one?

Storing JD 317 Outside This Winter For Blowing Snow - Ideas?

Storing JD 317 Outside This Winter For Blowing Snow - Ideas?
Hey all,

I have a 317 and a 49 series snowblower, and this is the first year that I'll use them. I'd love to keep it in my garage and just pull it out when I have to blow, but I wouldn't be able to put it back in the garage, as I have an issue with the grade of the concrete floor. The water pools against the wall the wall of the house. The floor has settled and now I'll need to get it all ripped up and a new floor poured.

It's going to be amazing when it gets done, but I don't have $5K sitting around right now to get it done prior to this winter. I feel that brushing it off as much as possible and parking it on a large rug wouldn't work either, as a lot of water would drip onto the rug and quickly saturate it (and freeze).

I have a nice sidewalk pad right next to the garage that I can park it next to, and then pull right onto the driveway. I was thinking of wrapping it with a tarp (once the exhaust cools) after blowing, and then just keeping it outside for the winter.

Thoughts?
Anybody ever heard of "The Daisy" lawnmower company and have info?
I have an old mower deck w/couple original wheels and the original push handles, but can't find info as to any company history.

It says on deck that it's called "The Daisy" and was made in Kansas. The name and where manufactured are in raised lettering that's within a raised oval circle with "The Daisy" being in larger stylized cursive writing, while where manufactured is in smaller block lettering. Deck appears to be cast raw aluminum(no paint). The wheels are like what one would see on the old Red Flyer wagons that bulge out in center and about 4" rim diameter. To do wheel height adjustments one has to unbolt and manually move each wheel up/down and put back into pre-drilled mount holes in mower deck.

No motor on deck, but it makes me think it's from the 40's/50's or 60's, but without any info on the company it's hard to determine age or what motor even goes on it.

Looks like it would make for a very neat project once one knew what engine was used, so I wouldn't want to get started on such a project until I know some better information about what I have.

Honda 5518 custom deck
So it’s very hard (& expensive) to source a Woods rear finish mower for our Honda 5000 series. As we all know, the odd 2000rpm pto on Honda’s limits our option for
Implements. I’d been pondering a way to adapt my MM52 deck to the rear but being belt drive, not simple. So, I’m looking to buy a Bolens 60” deck (#51060S) & try to acheive similar setup as a Woods. This Bolens deck is a 2000rpm, shaft driven, with its bevel gear on the rear. The pto shaft is a 3/4x7/8 just like the Honda & I’m told that the deck pto is a counter-clock input rotation, the Honda rear pto out is clockwise... it all seems like it may work? With all that said, does
Anyone out there have any input on why this shouldn’t be attempted?
Looking for MTD 990 info
I have a 990 that I am redoing, I also have a parts machine. I have an older trans axle with the clamp on hubs, and a newer trans axle with the nut on the end. Is one better than the other? I am also doing the 5 lug wheelhorse hub swap. The tractor does light duty around the farm, and is my ride around for the antique tractor show we go to every year.
2012 gt 6000/ power steering ??
Hey guys.

has anyone out there ever upgraded there 2012 gt6000 to power steering ? I see the newer larger craftsman garden tractors have or some have power steering. what would I have to do to incorporate the parts of a newer craftsman with power steering, onto my 2012 model ?

Headlight bulb
Wondering thru the Princess Auto Surplus I spotted some 881 bulbs. They look exactly like the bulbs in my JD X585. Anyone try them, can I damage anything? They are 12V & I believe they are fog bulbs & are a lot cheaper.

Spindly pleasant day....or not

Spindly pleasant day....or not
917.255950 is the model #. Can I get new spindles for this GT? It’s a great tractor hate to get rid of it.
Used x300- what to look for?
Newbie here. I am looking at buying a used x300 from Craigslist. Machine is a HD x300 2008 vintage with 273 hours for $1000 asking. Now after reading the forums here, I think I know what to look for, but I am mostly concerned about the transaxle and I have no clue on how to check if the transaxle is shot or not.

How would I test this, drive it up the hill ( which may be possible or not). What else can be done.
My own property is somewhat hilly too, but I can’t really afford to spring $6000 for a 500 series JD and it would be overkill for mowing 1/2acre of lawn, I think. All suggestion welcome.
Johnny Bucket Install Complete
I finally finished my JBJr install. I borrowed the idea for the joystick mount from an older gentleman’s YouTube video. I’m planning on getting a load of dirt soon and putting this thing to work. Overall I’m pretty happy with it. I also have the snow blade but it’s still in the box. As soon as I get some minor details with my powerflow worked out I will get that thing assembled.

Clean attachments?
As I was changing an attachment I was thinking about all the gravely attachments I've seen in barns, out behind the garage, in the open air, etc -not stored in the best conditions and rusty and all dirty.
I just used brake cleaner to remove any buildup on the attachment clutch (and it's been stored in a pretty nice shed) and then a spray of wd40. The way the clutches are built the springs etc can hold a lot of crud. I figure any dirt etc will end up in the oil in the tractor which I'd like to avoid.
I'm wondering if others have the same concerns and what you do?
Why no parking brake lever return spring?
Still getting used to my x590 but one feature I am missing is a return spring on the parking brake lever. I jump on and off the tractor and to keep it running I push in the brake and engage the lever. On my old tractor all you had to do was push in the brake again the the lever (spring return) would return to its position. I keep forgetting push the lever back down and try to take off with the brake still engaged. Any know the reason they don't have a return spring? I actually though the spring was missing.
Winter's Coming, Still No Sunstar in My Shed
I've had some close calls with Sunstars, then all the ads were JDs in mid summer, and just lost out on a machine near Milwaukee as the owner sold the attachments separate before I could commit to the drive.

Now I see that 8 hours away is this machine:
https://peoria.craigslist.org/grd/d/...706922135.html

Has:
Cab
Single Stage Blower
Manual plow blade
and the Vac setup (sorry about the sideways upload)

Pretty much all I need at the moment to get going. It's a pretty modified machine, a hashup of a 14 hp and an 18hp Sunstar. The only downside may be the newer engine: cheapest out there, a Predator from Harbor Freight. Get's pretty cold in my neck of the woods, I read they are hard starters in the cold, but I don't know if I should believe everything I read on the internet :tango_face_wink:

He didn't respond to my email questions, so finally I had to text him. Got him to send a pic of the vac system (the kind that mounts to the deck and shoots to the cart).

I'll need to rent a uhaul pickup and trailer to go get it, adding about $400 to the cost. Is this still a value? Hard to say without poking around the machine. Any advice on distance buying?

Thanks, I hope I can show some pics of my new sunstar soon!

John Deere 214 electric lift

MyTractorForum.com - The Friendliest Tractor Forum and Best Place for Tractor Information
John Deere 214 electric lift
Just wanted to know how difficult it will be to convert a manual lift on my jd 31 tiller to an electric lift. Will I be able to use the manual lift parts to connect to the actuator and will I need to make my own bracket mount for the actuator and motor. Thanks
New E170 question
Recently purchased a E170 with 48" deck. Couple questions:

The belt tensioner for the deck rattles like crazy. Is this normal? Called JD and they said to call dealer. Dealer checked it out and said " this is the way it's made, did nothing and sent me a bill for $26".
The front tires have very sharp edges both inside and outside that tear up the lawn.
Are any of you guys having this problem?
This is my first JD. I have no other problems and really like the tractor.
I went with the 170 because of the larger tires. A 38" deck would have been ok but not available. Will have to remove deck for winter storage but that's a good excuse to clean deck before storing. With deck installed it will not go through storage shed door.

I can't seem to navigate this site anymore. The pop up ads are simply too much for my internet service I guess. All the photos have advertising over them. I don't get it. I am on another forum, and there is none of this advertising.

Hi everyone
Just got a Ford tractor. Glad to be here!
Blades won't turn
I have a Craftsman DYT 4000. Been cutting grass with no problem... until today. I was cutting for a little while and noticed I needed to fill the gas tank. Filled 'er up and now when I pull the PTO switch, the blades won't turn. Checked all the belts and they're OK and seated properly. All the idler pulleys are in place with springs OK. My guess is the switch but the manual suggests:Obstruction in the clutch mechanism (I can't even locate that!) Worn/damaged mower drive belt. Frozen idler pulley . Frozen blade mandrel.
The pulleys all turn freely, so that's out. The belts all APPEAR to be OK and under tension. Where the heck IS the clutch mechanism?!?

Any help would REALLY be appreciated.
Ford yt16
I recently purchased a 1988 ford yt16. Can anyone tell me if the 1986 units are compatible for parts and accessories? I need to find another unit for original replacement parts but unsure if Ford made drastic changes year to year. Thanks!
My Kohler Courage single experiment
Hi all.
I bought a 2012 Husqvarna YTH 21k46 with the bad rep Kohler Courage 21hp single engine. The tractor had a broken frame so I used it for parts. It already had 360+ hours on it and still ran fantastic, no knocks, clunks, clanks, cracks, or oil leaks. Now keep in mind I have changed out a lot of these Courage engines and I'm in no way a fan.

About a year ago I bought this 2011 Craftsman YT 4500 with a 54 inch deck and blown 26 hp Kohler Courage V-Twin engine. I guess it helps to keep oil in them. Any way I thought to myself lets put that single in it and see what happens. IMO these Craftsman's should have never been built with such a monster deck. The tractor is too small for the deck. I thought for sure this engine wouldn't have the power or strength to even try to mow with. Boy I was wrong. It now has 450 hours on it and still running strong. I did try to do some field mowing with it but the terrain was too ruff and the deck kept getting hung up. With that said it's only been used on fairly flat terrain since then. That darned engine has plenty of power and it takes some pretty tall grass to bog her down. I'm still in ahh in how well it has held up and performed.

So my experiment with installing a bad rep engine in a tractor that it has no business in is a complete success. For you people reading about the horror stories on these engines they're not all bad. And yes no matter what when buying one ALWAYS look for oil leaks and cracks. I'm still not a fan but very impressed.

Question for MF 178 Owners - Help Please
Hi,

I've just bought a beautiful old MF 178 but the transmission dipstick is missing & in its place there is just a red plastic cap.

I actually have an extra engine dipstick which fits but is obviously longer. If you have a MF 178, could you please tell me how long your transmission dipstick is and how far down it the Max and Min markers are.

Thank you!!!

2 old mowers
I have 2 old mowers that still run well. One is a 1977 Jacobsen with a non-original Briggs and Stratton 3 horse. I was given the mower by someone I know and got it running. It had a throttle problem where it would not hold a speed. It sped up and immediately started to slow down again. After fixing that, I used it to test spark plugs and found that this rusty old one worked best in it. The other one is a Craftsman from the 80's. I call it "old oil burner" because that is exactly what it does. It burns oil, mostly when first started, or when put under heavy load. It has mismatched wheels because they have broken over the years. I use this one the most because the 4.5 horse engine has more power to it than the 3 horse one. Also, a friend of mine has 2 original lawn-boy commercial mowers that still work.
B6100HST glow plug issues
Sure hope somebody out there can help me with this one.
Mid 80's B6100 with the following situation:
Used to be that when the key was turned to the left there was a clicking noise (maybe every 10 seconds) and the glow plug indicator would glow and the tractor would start every time without fail.
Now when the key is turned to the left no clicking noise and the glow plug indicator takes over a minute to start to glow and the tractor is hard to start.
battery is at 12.2 volts, checked voltage at 10.2 volts on the glow pug side of the indicator.
Not sure if the indicator is failing, the key switch is failing or I have glow plug(s) failure
any ideas?
which goes on the crank first?
I took the pto clutch off my Ford last year (ok, well, it fell off last year) and I don't know which goes on first.. the adapter or the clutch.
can anyone set me right on this?

Fall auction
This coming Thursday is the fall auction at Beech Ridge Speedway. Plenty of old LT’s and GT’s to bid on, as well as a wide assortment of new tires.

Myself, I have a surplus of projects, but there is an older 345 in great condition but has a probable busted cam gear. Comes with a 48” deck and a 42” blower. Left brain says bid:tango_face_devil:, right brain says you’ve got enough projects, keep your money in your pocket.:tango_face_angel:

318 Deck Bent?
Trying to figure out if my deck is bent on the discharge side or if I am just missing an adjustment for the deck.

If it is bent does anyone have any recommendations on bending it back?

Backstory: My old deck that came with the mower had several holes rusted through on it and this is a replacement deck that I picked up for free from a family friend. Not going to turn down a free deck you know.
